Original job description
About Inpho
Inpho is a fast-growing scale-up, focused on developing cutting-edge electro-optical solutions for next-generation communications and photonic systems. Our multidisciplinary team is pushing the boundaries of innovation in integrated photonics and semiconductor packaging.
Inpho’s new class of electro-optical chips is poised to revolutionize and disrupt the optical interconnect market. Utilizing this new class of chips enables existing optical interconnect systems to be built at much lower cost; new architectures to be deployed that provide significantly higher price/performance; and a whole new generation of higher speed interconnect to be built that to date has been impossible.
About the Role
We are seeking a Junior Electro-Optical Validation Engineer to join our validation team and support the testing and characterization of Inpho’s next-generation InP-based electro-optical components and photonic chips. This role combines hands-on lab work, including executing EVT/DVT test plans and configuring high-speed measurement setups, with Python-based data analysis and automation that help the team interpret device performance quickly and consistently. It is ideal for a recent graduate who is eager to grow a career in high-speed electro-optical engineering, working alongside experienced engineers who provide mentorship and hands-on guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Use Python to build and maintain data visualization and analysis tools that make complex device performance data easy for the team to interpret.
- Support EVT/DVT testing by executing test plans, configuring measurement setups (high-speed probing, calibration, temperature stages, and fiber alignment), troubleshooting basic issues, and checking results against defined acceptance criteria, all under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Automate repetitive data processing and reporting tasks to improve the speed and consistency of the team's analysis.
- Document analysis scripts and methods so tools are reusable and results are traceable.
- Work closely with the validation, design, and test teams to understand their data needs and present results clearly.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
- 0–2 years of experience; recent graduates welcome. Co-op, internship, or project experience in RF, high-speed electronics, or electro-optics is an asset.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, visualization, and automation (Pandas, NumPy, Plotly, Matplotlib, or similar).
- Exposure to lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, or optical instruments, through coursework, co-op, or projects. Familiarity with high-speed probing or fiber alignment is an asset.
- Foundational understanding of S-parameters and high-speed signals.
- Basic familiarity with semiconductor device operation, including lasers, modulators, and photodetectors (coursework level is acceptable).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with high attention to detail.
- Clear communication and comfort in a fast-paced, cross-functional team.
- Eager to learn, open to feedback, and motivated to grow in high-speed electro-optical engineering.
Why Join Inpho?
- Be part of a mission-driven startup shaping the future of electro-optics.
- Hands-on mentorship from experienced engineers.
- Competitive salary, full health benefits and equity packages, flexible work environment, and career growth opportunities.
Come work with a dynamic, high-talent team to design and commercialize the highest performance electro-optical chips in the world!
