Insight Global is seeking a Director, Business Development - Defence to lead growth initiatives across its Canadian Defence portfolio. This individual will be responsible for identifying, shaping, capturing, and winning strategic opportunities within Canada's defence, national security, and federal government sectors.
Reporting into senior leadership, the Director will serve as the primary growth leader for the Defence portfolio, driving market expansion, customer engagement, opportunity capture, and long-term business development strategy across organizations including the Department of National Defence (DND), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), and broader national security community.
This is an ideal opportunity for a hands-on business development executive who enjoys both developing growth strategies and directly leading pursuits from opportunity identification through contract award.
Key Responsibilities
Defence Growth Strategy
- Develop and execute growth strategies for the Defence portfolio aligned with corporate objectives.
- Identify emerging market opportunities, procurement trends, and defence spending priorities.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with defence customers, government stakeholders, industry partners, and key decision-makers.
- Partner with executive leadership, government relations, operations, and program management teams to drive portfolio expansion.
Business Development & Capture Leadership
- Own and manage a robust pipeline of qualified defence opportunities.
- Lead opportunity qualification, pursuit, and capture efforts throughout the entire business development lifecycle.
- Develop capture plans, win strategies, customer engagement plans, and account growth strategies.
- Conduct customer research, market analysis, competitive assessments, and stakeholder mapping.
- Coordinate internal and external pursuit teams to maximize win probability.
Proposal & Pursuit Management
- Lead or support complex proposal efforts for strategic defence opportunities.
- Collaborate with technical, pricing, operations, and contracts teams to develop winning solutions.
- Contribute to executive summaries, value propositions, compliance strategies, and proposal reviews.
- Assess opportunity risks, financial performance, and strategic fit.
Portfolio Leadership & Operations
- Maintain accurate forecasting, pipeline visibility, and pursuit reporting.
- Manage pursuit budgets and resource allocation.
- Ensure CRM data integrity and reporting accuracy.
- Present executive briefings, account reviews, and growth updates to senior leadership.
- Support continuous improvement of business development processes and best practices.
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
- Act as a trusted business partner across program management, operations, government relations, and executive leadership.
- Foster collaboration and alignment throughout the pursuit lifecycle.
- Mentor and support members of the broader growth organization.
- Help scale and mature the Defence growth function as the business continues to expand.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Political Science, Military Studies, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Significant business development, capture management, or growth leadership experience within:
- Defence
- Aerospace
- Government Services
- National Security
- Federal Government Contracting
- Demonstrated success growing and managing a portfolio-level pipeline.
- Proven experience leading capture efforts and winning complex government contracts.
- Strong understanding of Canadian defence procurement and federal contracting environments.
- Experience collaborating with Program Management, Operations, Government Relations, and Executive Leadership teams.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent written, presentation, and communication abilities.
Compensation:
$200K - $235K per year + full benefits packages
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as short-term and long-term disability, life insurance and AD&D. Employees will also have access to a registered retirement savings account with employer matching.
