Job Description
Insight Global is hiring for a SAS/Python Developer on a 12-month contract for a leading banking client. This is a hybrid role and requires 2x/week on site downtown Toronto (NO REMOTE FLEX).
This role will support the Marketing Analytics team’s migration from SAS Enterprise Guide to Python using Anaconda in a cloud environment (with development in Visual Studio). The focus is hands-on, heads-down coding to convert existing SAS programs (data steps, macros, SAS SQL) into efficient, maintainable Python code (pandas/dataframes), with strong attention to performance and documentation. No predictive modeling is required - this is primarily a migration and engineering-quality coding role.
Time Allocation (Target Split)
- 80%: Coding / migration work (SAS to Python conversion, refactoring, testing)
- 10%: Stakeholder communication (status updates, clarifications with lead/Director)
- 10%: Engineering/support work (documentation, environment/connectivity support, collaboration with team member)
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Convert SAS Enterprise Guide programs into Python (Anaconda-based) equivalents
- Translate SAS data steps, macros, and SAS SQL logic into Python/pandas
- Refactor and optimize code for performance (compute-efficient processing)
- Write efficient queries and transformations; avoid compute-heavy approaches
- Apply data engineering best practices (e.g., efficient querying, indexing concepts, runtime considerations)
- Partner with internal project owners to migrate their SAS-based workflows while they retain ownership of outputs
- Lead/own migration delivery for a large, code-heavy initiative from the team’s portfolio
- Produce clear technical documentation (in-code comments and supporting documentation) so the broader team can maintain the migrated assets
- Provide regular, concise status updates and communicate progress/blockers clearly
- Support connectivity and environment-related needs (e.g., connecting to servers, navigating architectural/engineering constraints) as required
- Leverage GitHub Copilot where helpful to accelerate development, while ensuring correctness, clarity, and maintainability
