JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Lead, Land to support the development of a major greenfield LNG-related project in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. While the overall development includes a floating LNG facility, the project also requires a significant land-based development program, including gas facilities and supporting infrastructure. Environmental information and baseline work from approximately 2017 is available, but the project now requires a senior environmental leader to review that existing body of work, determine what remains valid, identify gaps, and plan the additional field studies, testing and environmental work required to advance the project. The Senior Environmental Lead will take ownership of the land-based environmental workstream. Rather than personally completing every technical study, this individual will determine what work needs to happen, oversee consultants and specialists completing it, review the quality and completeness of their deliverables, and advise project leadership on environmental and regulatory considerations.
- Lead environmental planning and oversight for the land-based components of a major greenfield development.
- Review existing environmental studies, baseline information, field data and historical documentation.
- Identify gaps in historical environmental information and determine where updated studies, fieldwork or testing are required.
- Develop and coordinate the environmental work plan required to support continued project development.
- Oversee environmental consultants, contractors and technical specialists completing field investigations, assessments and related studies.
- Review consultant deliverables for technical quality, completeness and alignment with project needs.
- Provide guidance on environmental assessment, regulatory and permitting requirements associated with land development.
- Identify potential environmental constraints and risks early enough to inform engineering and project decisions.
- Coordinate environmental considerations associated with land development, gas facilities and supporting infrastructure.
- Work alongside engineering, civil, geotechnical, regulatory and project management teams.
- Provide senior guidance to junior environmental resources. Participate in occasional visits to the Prince Rupert project site.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 10+ years of environmental experience supporting major capital, energy, natural resources or infrastructure projects.
- Strong experience with land-based environmental assessment, environmental planning and regulatory/permitting activities.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing baseline environmental information and determining additional study or fieldwork requirements.
- Experience developing and managing environmental work plans for complex capital projects.
- Experience overseeing environmental consultants and providing senior review/QA/QC of technical deliverables.
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation and regulatory requirements relevant to major project development.
- Experience working collaboratively with engineering, civil, geotechnical and project teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Ecology or a related discipline. Ability to travel periodically to Prince Rupert.
Vacancy Status:
This posting is for a currently vacant role, and the successful candidate will be hired into an existing open position.
