Position Title: Transmission Line Engineer
Contract: 6-month Contract + Extensions or conversion to permanent
Location: 5 days a week onsite in Calgary
Rate: $75/hr-$80/hr
Job Description:
We are seeking a Transmission Line Engineer to support the planning, design, analysis, and execution of high-voltage transmission line projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for conceptual, preliminary, and detailed transmission line design, including line routing, structure spotting, sag-tension analysis, conductor selection, ampacity assessments, and the development and review of Issued for Construction (IFC) packages. This role will also provide engineering support during construction and commissioning while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and utility practices. Location and contract length to be determined.
Must Haves:
- Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
- 5+ years (or 10+ years, depending on level) of transmission line engineering and design experience.
- Experience working for a transmission utility, engineering consulting firm, or utility owner organization.
- Strong experience with conceptual, preliminary, and detailed transmission line design.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
- Experience performing sag-tension analysis and conductor/shield wire selection.
- Ability to review and validate transmission line models developed by designers and consultants.
- Experience developing and reviewing IFC (Issued for Construction) design packages.
- Strong knowledge of transmission line loading, clearances, structural loading criteria, conductor performance, and line ratings.
- Understanding of AESO requirements, Alberta Electrical Utility Code (AEUC), CSA standards, and IEEE standards.
- Experience providing engineering support during construction and commissioning activities.
Plusses:
- Experience with PLS-TOWER.
- Advanced expertise in transmission line modeling and analytical software.
- Previous experience supporting large-scale transmission infrastructure projects in Alberta.
- Familiarity with utility engineering standards, asset management practices, and design optimization initiatives.
