Original job description

Job Description

The Mutual Fire Insurance Company of British Columbia

Founded in 1902, Our Client is one of Canada's longest-standing and most respected mutual property and casualty insurers. Over more than 120 years, the organization has evolved from a regional agricultural insurer into a growing national insurance provider serving farm, commercial, and personal insurance customers across multiple provinces. Together with its subsidiary, Four Points Insurance, Our Client combines deep agricultural expertise, disciplined underwriting, strong broker and MGA/MGU relationships, financial strength, and a reputation for exceptional service and fair claims handling. Our Client has also earned national recognition as one of Canada's leading insurers, including being named P&C Insurer of the Year in 2025. Rooted in its mutual values and regional strength, Our Client has evolved into a multi-line insurer with a national footprint and a reputation for collaboration, dependability, and people-first service.

Today, Our Client is entering one of the most important periods in its history. As the organization celebrates its 125th anniversary and prepares for the retirement of a long-serving and highly successful President and CEO, the Company is simultaneously pursuing an ambitious growth strategy aimed at becoming a $750 million Canadian mutual insurer. Supported by a strong balance sheet, a talented leadership team, a respected brand, and a culture grounded in mutuality, service, and community, Our Client is exceptionally well positioned for its next chapter of growth and evolution.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the President and CEO will provide enterprise-wide leadership across Our Client and will be both a steward of Our Client’s core identity and a catalyst for future-facing change. The President and CEO will be responsible for advancing the Company's strategic vision while balancing growth, underwriting discipline, financial performance, member value, organizational capability, and long-term sustainability. Working closely with the Board, brokers and MGA/MGU, regulators, reinsurers, employees, and policyholders, the President and CEO will guide Our Client through increasing scale and complexity while positioning the organization to capitalize on opportunities in new markets, products, technology, and partnerships.

The ideal candidate is a highly respected insurance executive with significant property and casualty experience and a demonstrated ability to lead growth, transformation, and organizational performance in a regulated environment. They will combine strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and operational discipline with humility, integrity, and a genuine appreciation for people and culture. Equally comfortable in the Boardroom and in front of brokers and MGA/MGUs, employees, regulators, and community stakeholders, the successful candidate will be capable of preserving the organization's mutual values while helping shape its future.

This is a rare opportunity to lead one of Canada's most respected mutual insurance organizations at a defining moment in its history. The incoming President and CEO will inherit a strong foundation, an exceptional team, a differentiated culture, and significant opportunities for growth. For a values-driven executive seeking the opportunity to shape the future of a nationally recognized insurer while making a meaningful impact on employees, brokers and MGA/MGUs, policyholders, and communities, this is an incredible opportunity.

In accordance with BC’s Pay Transparency Act, the expected base salary range for this role is $385,000-$425,000 plus bonus and benefits but may vary based on the successful candidate.

We thank all applicants for their interest in this position. Please note that we will only be in contact with those individuals moving forward with our client.
