WHY JOIN US

With over 120 years of experience in North America, Soletanche Bachy Canada (“SB Canada”) is an established leader in the deep foundations industry. Through our affiliation with the Soletanche Freyssinet group of companies, SB Canada combines local experience with international expertise and can confidently say “Build on Us”.

Our employees enjoy a safe and stable work environment, and a culture based on integrity, teamwork and passion for our jobs. By joining Soletanche Bachy Canada, you will become part of a growing team and have opportunities to build strong relationships with industry leaders from around the world with an employer that is committed to career development.

Purpose of the Role

SB Canada is hiring an Estimator / Project Coordinator to support our Major Projects group, which covers projects across Canada. Working under the direction of the Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager, you will help build competitive, well-founded tenders by organizing tender documents, completing quantity takeoffs, managing subcontractor and vendor quotes, and developing cost estimates.

When a project is awarded, you will support the handover to construction and may move into a direct project support role, helping with scheduling, cost control, claims and stakeholder communication. This role suits someone who wants exposure to both the estimating and delivery sides of major projects.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

Estimating and tender support

Work independently and as part of the Major Projects estimating team under the direction of the Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager.
Organize and manage tender documents, addenda and bid correspondence.
Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications.
Solicit, manage and level subcontractor and vendor quotes.
Identify risks and constructability gaps in tender documents.
Build comprehensive cost estimates based on available information.
Work with the engineering team to identify and evaluate design-build solutions.
Work closely with operations to define means and methods and build preliminary schedules.
Conduct site visits and attend client and stakeholder meetings as required.

Project transition and support

On project award, support the transition to the construction and project delivery teams.
Provide handover support to the construction team.
Where required, move into a direct project support role, assisting with scheduling, claims, cost control and key stakeholder communication.

Health and safety

Be an active participant in SB Canada’s Health and Safety Program, helping to foster a positive safety culture as we continue to move from compliance to care.

NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employees may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Qualifications – What Will Make You Successful

Education

Bachelor's degree or diploma in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline.

Experience

3+ years of estimating, project engineering, project coordination or construction experience in heavy civil, deep foundations, ground improvement, excavation support, tunnelling, or geotechnical construction.
Hands-on experience with quantity takeoffs, quote management and building cost estimates.
Exposure to project delivery activities such as scheduling, cost control or change management.
Experience in deep foundations, geotechnical or ground engineering works is an asset.

Soft Skills

Detail-oriented and accurate, with a methodical approach to estimating.
Able to work independently and as part of a team under tight tender deadlines.
Clear communicator with engineers, operations, subcontractors and clients.
Curious and eager to learn from senior estimators and project teams.
Adaptable when moving between estimating and project support work.

Preferred Skills

Bilingual in English and French.
Experience with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid or B2W, and takeoff tools such as Bluebeam.
Working knowledge of scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Willingness to travel across Canada as required.

Required Designations or Certifications

None required. EIT, P.Eng., CET or PQS designation, or progress toward one, is an asset.

Please note:

Only candidates being considered for this position will be contacted. SB Canada is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. If you are selected to participate in the recruitment process, please inform Human Resources of any accommodations you may require. Our team will directly work with you to ensure you are fully able to participate in the process.
