Original job description
Intermediate Engineer
Position Type: Permanent Full-Time, 37.5 hours work week
Experience Level: Intermediate-Level (5-7 years experience)
Company Overview
International Water Supply Ltd. (IWS) is a complete groundwater development organization, specializing in the assessment, engineering design, service and maintenance of groundwater supplies. We are an industry leader providing both engineering and contracting services to a wide range of municipal and industrial clients completing maintenance on water wells along with supply, installation and maintenance of well pump systems and lift station pumping equipment. During its 94 years in business, IWS has developed more groundwater in Canada for municipal and industrial use than any other Canadian group. We are looking for qualified talent to help us get to our 100-year milestone and beyond.
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated, organized, and highly capable Junior/Intermediate Engineer to join our team. Because we specialize in large vertical turbine pumps, in addition to submersible well pumps and work extensively in servicing wells and the associated equipment, most of the technical expertise required for this position can only be developed through hands-on experience within the role. While related experience would be an asset, we are not necessarily looking for someone who already has extensive knowledge in the industry. Instead, we are looking for an individual with strong project management, organization, communication, problem-solving, and learning skills, who has the ability and initiative to develop the specialized technical knowledge over time.
The successful candidate will work closely with the company’s President and Senior Project Engineer, initially supporting projects and learning the technical elements while gradually taking on greater responsibility. The role is designed for someone who can become an effective project contributor from the outset, with lots of room to grow and advance within the organization. Please note this position is 100% in-person, no remote work.
Key Responsibilities
· Project Management & Coordination with Customers and IWS field staff.
· Support the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering projects.
· Track project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and outstanding tasks.
· Coordinate activities between engineering, suppliers and clients. Maintain client contacts, and manage scheduling and specific site requirements for IWS service crews
· Design, select and price vertical turbine and submersible pumps for various applications
· Prepare for and participate in project meetings and maintain clear records of decisions and action items.
· Follow up on outstanding tasks and ensure commitments are progressing.
· Assist with project budgets, estimates, procurement, scheduling, and resource planning.
· Prepare project reports and draft invoices for projects
· Identify potential project risks, delays, or issues and communicate them proactively.
· Maintain accurate and organized project documentation.
· Other duties as assigned and as they arise
What We're Looking For
· Bachelor's degree engineering (ideally in: Civil and/or Mechanical disciplines).
· Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario in good standing would be an asset.
· Experience with rotating equipment would also be a benefit.
· Minimum 5-plus years project management experience preferred.
· Strong knowledge of standard office software.
· Strong organizational, project management and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Demonstrated ability to learn new and complex information.
· Proactive and self-directed approach to work.
· Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical people.
· Comfortable taking responsibility while recognizing when guidance or expertise is required.
What IWS can offer you:
General Compensation Details
· Opportunity of advancement in company and business management
· Current compensation starting at $75-$90,000 negotiable based on experience
· Health and dental benefits after 3 months
· Company matched pension plan after 24 months
· Starting 3 weeks paid holidays, negotiable based on experience
Technical Development and Training
· Develop a thorough understanding of the company's specialized products, processes and technical knowledge.
· Work alongside experienced engineers to learn the technical aspects of the industry.
· Opportunity to use engineering analysis, design, troubleshooting skills to assist in the success of the team.
· Learn and apply industry-specific standards, procedures, tools, and software.
· Gradually take ownership of increasingly complex technical and project-related responsibilities and follow through to completion.
What Success Looks Like
During the initial stages of the role, success will be demonstrated through the ability to:
· Stay organized and reliably manage assigned responsibilities.
· Effectively coordinate tasks.
· Communicate issues and project status clearly.
· Quickly develop an understanding of our specialized industry.
· Ask thoughtful questions and actively seek to understand the technical work.
· Apply general engineering principles to unfamiliar situations.
· Learn from experienced engineers and progressively retain and apply that knowledge.
· Take ownership of increasingly complex assignments.
· Over time, as more knowledge and skills are in place, the position would manage their own projects and be a key member of the engineering team.
