Original job description
At Interpro Pipe & Steel Inc., our strength starts with our people. As a team, we collaborate to solve problems, contribute ideas, and challenge each other to grow.
We are hiring a co-op student to find out where our tubular lines lose throughput and where they generate waste, and to put numbers on both. You will spend most of your term on the shop floor and in our production data, measuring cycle times, finding the constraint on each line, and quantifying the waste that sits around it.
Your findings feed directly into our Enterprise Business System (EBS), the stage-gate process through which every continuous improvement initiative at Interpro runs. Good analysis from this role becomes funded projects that operations teams act on.
What You’ll Work On
- Bottleneck Analysis
- Waste Analysis
- EBS Support
- A current-state value stream map for each tubular line in scope
- A constraint analysis per line: where the bottleneck is, the data behind it, and what it costs in lost throughput
- A waste register that lists each waste found, where it occurs, and its estimated annual impact
- At least three improvement opportunities entered into EBS with baseline data and estimated value
- A repeatable data collection method (time study sheets, queries, templates) so the analysis can be refreshed after you leave
- A final presentation to operations leadership
- Currently enrolled in an engineering or engineering technology co-op program (industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, process systems or related), with at least second year completed
- Strong Excel skills: pivot tables, lookups and basic charting
- Working knowledge of statistics (averages, variation, distributions)
- Comfortable working on the shop floor in PPE around heavy industrial equipment
- Clear written and verbal communication, and the confidence to ask operators how the work is really done
- Able to manage your own time and work with limited supervision
- Coursework or training in Lean, Six Sigma (Yellow or Green Belt), or operations management preferred
- Exposure to Power BI, SQL, Python or Minitab preferred
- Previous co-op or work experience in manufacturing, heavy industry or oil and gas preferred
- Valid driver’s license for occasional travel between sites preferred
- Competitive wages and bonus opportunities
- Family medical, dental, and prescription coverage at minimal employee cost
- Short and long-term disability programs
- Competitive retirement plans
- Employer-provided and Voluntary Life Insurance options
- Paid vacation and recognized statutory holidays
- Apprenticeship and career advancement within the company
- Tuition reimbursement
