Position Description

Title: Human Resources Generalist

Department: Human Resources

Immediate Supervisor: Manager, Human Resources

Status: Exempt Salaried

Position Purpose: To coordinate and deliver day-to-day operational HR programs for the Truro site, including recruitment and onboarding, training and orientation support, attendance and performance management support, supervisor coaching, employee relations support, and immigration program administration. The HR Generalist works with guidance from the Manager, Human Resources, and escalates complex or high-risk matters as appropriate.

Principle Accountabilities

Models our IPG values centered around people: Teamwork, Integrity, Passion and Performance

Manage the recruitment and selection process for assigned positions, including job postings, applicant screening, interviews, reference checks, offers and pre-employment requirements.
Coordinate onboarding and orientation activities and follow up with new employees and supervisors to support a successful transition into the workplace
Serve as the primary HR Resource for supervisors on attendance management, performance concerns, employee documentation, and corrective action processes, ensuring consistency and compliance with company practices and escalating to the Manager, HR as necessary.
Receive and respond to employee questions and concerns, conduct preliminary fact-finding, maintain appropriate documentation, and escalate complex or sensitive matters to the Manager, HR.
Support employee relations activities including preliminary investigations, fact-finding, conflict resolution, accommodation administration, and return-to-work coordination, escalating complex matters as appropriate.
Administer employer-supported immigration programs as necessary.
Maintain HRIS data integrity and support HR system administration activities, including employee transactions and training, reporting, audits, data validation, and process improvements within Dayforce and related systems.
Maintain accurate employee information, confidential personnel files, HRIS records, trackers and related HR documentation.
Prepare and analyze HR metrics, workforce reports, onboarding and recruitment data, attendance trends and other workforce analytics to support operational decision-making.
Review and support the implementation of HR policies, procedures, and process improvements to strengthen consistency, compliance and employee experience.
Support employee engagement, recognition, retention and health and safety initiatives as required.
Independently manage assigned HR programs and priorities, exercising sound judgment while ensuring the Manager, HR remains informed of significant issues, risks, trends and employee relations matters.
Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
2-4 years of progressive HR experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, attendance management, employee investigations, performance management, and supervisor coaching.
Strong working knowledge of employment-related legislation, human rights legislation, occupational health and safety requirements, privacy requirements and HR best practices.
Experience administering HRIS systems and employee data, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with Dayforce or comparable HRIS platform is considered a strong asset.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential employee information and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive or complex workplace matters
Strong interpersonal, coaching, influencing and relationship building skills, with the ability to establish credibility and trust with employees, supervisors, and managers at all levels of the organization.
Ability to effectively investigate issues, gather facts, identify risks and recommend practical solutions while knowing when to escalate more complex matters.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and HR programs with limited day-to-day supervision.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to prepare, interpret, and communicate HR metrics, workforce data, and trends to support operational decision-making.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, complemented by strong attention to detail, follow-up, documentation and recordkeeping practices.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and maintain accountability while collaboratively within a team environment.
Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and customer service skills, with the ability to navigate difficult conversations professionally and respectfully.
Experience supporting immigration programs, including the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), is considered an asset.
Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while supporting operational requirements and continuous improvement initiatives.
Willingness and ability to regularly work within the production environment to develop a thorough understanding of manufacturing operations, employee roles, workflow, training requirements, and operational challenges, and to build strong working relationships with employees and supervisors throughout the facility.
