About Invisia Software
Invisia Software develops and operates digital products with an emphasis on dependable engineering, practical problem-solving and measurable product quality. Our teams build customer-facing applications and the services behind them, integrating external platforms and handling transaction-critical workflows.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a hands-on Backend Technical Lead to take technical ownership of the backend services that support real-time availability, reservations, third-party integrations, payments and customer-facing APIs. You will design and write production code, guide backend engineers, strengthen reliability, and turn agreed product requirements into maintainable technical solutions. This is a technical leadership role, not a purely managerial or architecture-only position.
Key Responsibilities
Backend design and hands-on engineering
- Design, develop and evolve services, REST APIs, data models and asynchronous workflows using Node.js, TypeScript and AWS.
- Make sound technical decisions on DynamoDB access patterns, relational data, indexing, caching and queue-based processing; document important trade-offs.
- Build resilient integrations with external service providers, including timeout handling, retries, rate limits, idempotency and safe failure recovery.
Transaction correctness and platform reliability
- Own the technical integrity of reservation and payment workflows, including state transitions, duplicate prevention, callbacks/webhooks and recoverable failure scenarios.
- Implement controls and support operational reconciliation for transaction status, refunds and external-system mismatches; partner with the appropriate business and finance owners.
- Diagnose production issues using logs, metrics and traces; coordinate incident response, lead technical root-cause analysis and drive preventive fixes.
- Set and improve practical backend service objectives with engineering and DevOps, covering latency, errors, availability, capacity and cloud efficiency.
Technical delivery and team leadership
- Translate approved requirements into implementation designs, estimates, technical tasks and dependencies; raise risks early and deliver to agreed engineering commitments.
- Remain actively involved in development, complex debugging, design reviews and code reviews; unblock engineers without becoming a single point of failure.
- Mentor backend engineers, uphold clean code and secure engineering practices, and improve unit, integration and contract testing.
- Work closely with Product, TPM, Web/Mobile, QA and DevOps on API contracts, releases, incident prevention and end-to-end solution quality.
- Own backend-level technical decisions; align material architectural or platform changes with the designated Engineering Leader / CTO.
Required Experience And Capabilities
- Strong recent production experience with Node.js and TypeScript, including personally designing and delivering complex backend services.
- Usually 8–12 years in backend engineering, including demonstrated technical leadership of engineers or critical services; proven ability matters more than tenure.
- Practical AWS experience, especially with relevant services such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, RDS and CloudWatch.
- Good command of NoSQL and SQL data modeling, query optimization, consistency, caching and event-driven design.
- Experience with external APIs and transaction-critical workflows; understands idempotency, observability, failure modes and data integrity.
- Evidence of production troubleshooting, code quality improvements, automated testing and safe deployments.
- Clear technical communication, ownership of outcomes and the ability to make pragmatic decisions in a growing engineering team.
GOOD TO HAVE
- Experience with reservation, availability, inventory, e-commerce, marketplace or payment processing systems.
- Stripe, Redis, Datadog, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD automation or comparable tooling.
- Experience improving a live platform incrementally while preserving service continuity.
What Success Looks Like
- Within the first 90 days, develop a working understanding of critical backend services, map key failure and performance risks, and deliver prioritized improvements with the team.
- Establish meaningful service baselines, visible engineering-quality practices and clear technical ownership for important backend components.
- Over time, demonstrate measurable gains in transaction reliability, incident recurrence, API performance, code quality and predictable technical delivery.
SELECTION PROCESS
Introductory discussion and experience review; practical backend system-design / debugging exercise; deep technical discussion and code review; leadership and collaboration interview. We focus on evidence of work personally owned and problems solved.
