About the Role
Delta Hotels by Marriott Kamloops is looking for a dependable and hardworking Kitchen Steward to join our Culinary team. The Kitchen Steward plays an important role in keeping our kitchen clean, organized, safe, and ready for service. This position is responsible for cleaning dishes, cookware, equipment, and kitchen areas while ensuring the Culinary and Food & Beverage teams have the supplies they need to deliver a great guest experience.
What You’ll Do
- Operate and maintain commercial dishwashing equipment.
- Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, cutlery, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Inspect cleaned items and return any items requiring additional cleaning.
- Store clean kitchenware and service items in designated areas.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the dish area, kitchen, storage areas, floors, walls, counters, and equipment.
- Empty and maintain garbage, recycling, and disposal areas.
- Complete scheduled cleaning and deep-cleaning duties.
- Support the Culinary and Food & Beverage teams by collecting and transporting dishes and kitchen supplies.
- Assist with receiving, storing, rotating, and organizing products when required.
- Assist with basic food preparation or other kitchen duties as assigned.
- Follow sanitation, chemical-handling, health and safety, and hotel procedures.
- Report equipment problems, maintenance needs, accidents, and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Perform other related duties as required to support kitchen operations.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous kitchen, dishwashing, cleaning, or hospitality experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and willing to take initiative.
- Ability to follow instructions, cleaning procedures, and chemical-handling requirements.
- Flexible availability, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Working Conditions
Fast-paced and physically active commercial kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, noise, cleaning products, wet floors, food waste, and varying temperatures. The role involves working independently and with Culinary and Food & Beverage teams. Flexible availability is required based on business needs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely move dish racks, carts, cookware, waste containers, and kitchen supplies.
- Ability to work safely around hot surfaces, steam, water, cleaning chemicals, sharp objects, and wet or slippery areas.
- Ability to occasionally use stairs while transporting supplies or equipment.
