Original job description
If you’re energized by massive scale, deep technical complexity, and the opportunity to shape the next era of compute, this is your moment. Join a team where groundbreaking work meets competitive compensation, meaningful impact, and a chance to accelerate your career at the forefront of AI innovation. We want to meet you.
Why IREN?
IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way: responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
This position is based on-site in Canal Flats, BC, supporting the construction of a 30 MW liquid-cooled AI data center campus. It is a camp-based role working a 14 days on / 7 days off (14&7) rotation in support of the project’s 24-hour, two-crew (A/B) construction schedule. Camp accommodations, meals, and site transportation are provided during on-rotation periods.
The Role
The Construction Superintendent – Electrical owns all electrical construction activities on a greenfield 30 MW liquid-cooled AI data center campus. Our facilities are, at their core, power and cooling projects with a building around them, and this role leads the power side: ensuring medium- and low-voltage distribution, critical power, grounding, pathways, and controls wiring are installed, inspected, tested, and energized to meet project requirements, industry standards, and operational reliability demands. This is a dual-scope role: at project start you lead electrical field execution while developing and owning the project’s Electrical QA/QC program; as dedicated QA resources come on board, you retain program ownership while continuing to lead the field. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you’ll direct electrical General Foremen across day and night crews and collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and vendors to drive quality, safety, and efficiency across the project lifecycle.
- Project Oversight: Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of all electrical construction activities: MV/LV distribution, switchgear, UPS, PDUs, generators, busway, conduit and stub-ups, cable tray and pathways, grounding and bonding, controls wiring, security pathways, temporary power, and electrical infrastructure supporting the cooling plant.
- QA/QC Program Leadership: Develop, implement, and manage the Electrical QA/QC program: inspection and test plans (ITPs), inspection protocols, and non-conformance management aligned with project specifications and commissioning requirements. Oversee dedicated QA resources as they come on board.
- Technical Leadership: Review and interpret single-lines, panel schedules, conduit and tray layouts, specifications, RFIs, and submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry best practices.
- Trade Supervision: Directly lead electrical, instrumentation, and low-voltage crews through your General Foremen, enforcing schedule, quality, and safety day-to-day on site across both crews.
- Coordination: Interface with the Mechanical, Civil, and IT/Network teams, the substation/HV contractor, and commissioning agents to ensure seamless integration and structured energization.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers, ensuring timely delivery and quality installation.
- Commissioning & Testing: Oversee pre-functional and functional testing, structured energization and switching plans, and integrated systems testing (IST), ensuring testing documentation is complete and turnover is structured.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all electrical work adheres to CSA C22.1 (Canadian Electrical Code), NFPA, NETA, IEEE, and local codes, as well as internal safety and quality standards. Own the site safety record for your scope.
- Scheduling & Budget Control: Track progress and manage schedules to ensure project milestones are achieved within budget and timeline.
- Stakeholder Communication: Provide clear daily and weekly progress, manpower, and quality updates to project leadership.
- 7+ years of experience in electrical construction management on heavy industrial or mission-critical projects (data centers, LNG, power generation, mining, petrochemical, or similar), including at least 3 years in a superintendent or senior field leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience leading or building electrical QA/QC programs (ITPs, inspection protocols, non-conformance management).
- Valid Canadian Journeyman Electrician certification (Red Seal endorsement preferred).
- Deep knowledge of MV/LV distribution, UPS, generators, grounding, and critical power systems.
- Hands-on commissioning experience: energization planning, functional testing, IST, and structured turnover.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (CSA C22.1, NFPA, NETA, IEEE, BC Building Code).
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple contractors and align them to project goals.
- Ability to work on-site in Canal Flats, BC on a 14&7 camp rotation, including night shift coverage as the project ramps; camp/remote-site experience an asset.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in data center construction and commissioning, including liquid-cooled infrastructure (CDUs, direct-to-chip, or immersion).
- NETA certification (Level II to IV) or equivalent.
- Experience interfacing with substation / HV scopes and utility interconnection work.
- Experience with structured completions platforms and turnover of tagged systems.
- PMP certification or Gold Seal designation an asset.
- Work with state-of-the-art AI hardware and some of the most advanced compute systems in the world
- Be part of a team that values innovation, autonomy, and continuous learning
- Make a measurable impact on the performance and reliability of global AI workloads
