Why IREN?IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way: responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
This position is based on-site in Canal Flats, BC, supporting the construction of a 30 MW liquid-cooled AI data center campus. It is a camp-based role working a 14 days on / 7 days off (14&7) rotation in support of the project's 24-hour, two-crew (A/B) construction schedule. Camp accommodations, meals, and site transportation are provided during on-rotation periods.
The RoleThe Construction Superintendent – Network owns all network infrastructure construction on the Canal Flats campus. Where the Electrical Superintendent delivers power and the Mechanical Superintendent delivers cooling, this role delivers the connectivity backbone: structured cabling, fibre and copper pathways, network rooms and MDF/IDF build-out, rack and cabinet installation, and the physical interface to the HPC/GPU fit-out. You'll ensure network infrastructure is installed, tested, certified, and turned over to meet project requirements, industry standards (TIA/BICSI), and the readiness dates of the compute deployment teams. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you'll direct General Foremen across two rotating crews on day and night shifts and collaborate with internal IT/Network, contractors, and vendors to drive quality, safety, and efficiency across the project lifecycle.
- Project Oversight: Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of all network infrastructure construction: cable tray, fibre and copper pathways, structured cabling, network rooms (MDF/IDF/meet-me), rack and cabinet installation, patch panels, cable management, and labelling.
- Technical Leadership: Review and interpret network drawings, cabling schedules, rack elevations, pathway layouts, specifications, and submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements, TIA/BICSI standards, and IREN network design standards.
- Trade Supervision: Directly lead structured cabling, fibre splicing, and low-voltage crews through your General Foremen (A and B crews, day and night), enforcing schedule, quality, and safety day-to-day on site.
- Coordination: Interface with the Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Commissioning Superintendents for pathway and room readiness, and with the internal IT/Network and HPC deployment teams to sequence room handover, rack delivery, and compute installation.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Supervise and coordinate cabling contractors, fibre and copper suppliers, rack/cabinet vendors, and testing/certification partners, ensuring timely delivery and quality installation.
- Testing & Turnover: Oversee fibre (OTDR/OLTS) and copper certification testing, labelling verification, and as-built documentation; deliver structured turnover of network rooms and cabling plant to the IT/Network and commissioning teams.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all network construction adheres to CSA C22.1 low-voltage requirements, TIA-568/569/606/942, BICSI best practices, and internal safety and quality standards. Own the site safety record for your scope.
- Scheduling & Budget Control: Track progress and manage schedules so network rooms and cabling are certified ahead of compute deployment milestones; manage network scope costs within budget.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to pathway congestion, fibre routing, room readiness, winter construction, and handover sequencing with the HPC teams.
- Stakeholder Communication: Provide clear daily and weekly updates to project leadership and the IT/Network team on progress, manpower, challenges, and solutions.
- 7+ years of experience in structured cabling / network infrastructure construction on large-scale data center, telecom, or mission-critical projects, including at least 3 years in a superintendent, project lead, or senior field leadership role.
- Proven track record delivering large structured cabling and fibre plant scopes (thousands of terminations, multiple network rooms) with direct site authority over multi-crew installations.
- Strong understanding of fibre and copper media, pathways and spaces, network room build-out, rack/cabinet standards, and labelling/administration (TIA-606).
- Hands-on testing and certification experience: OTDR/OLTS fibre testing, copper certification, and as-built/turnover documentation.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (TIA-568/569/606/942, BICSI, CSA C22.1 low-voltage sections).
- BICSI RCDD or Technician certification, Red Seal Electrician with structured cabling specialization, or equivalent experience.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple contractors and align them to project goals.
- Ability to work on-site in Canal Flats, BC on a 14&7 camp rotation, including night shift coverage as the project ramps; camp/remote-site experience an asset.
Preferred Experience- Prior experience in hyperscale or HPC/GPU data center fit-out, including high-density fibre (MPO/MTP) deployments.
- Experience coordinating with network engineering and compute deployment teams on room-by-room handover.
- Experience with structured completions platforms and turnover of tagged systems.
- PMP certification or Gold Seal designation an asset.
- Work with state-of-the-art AI hardware and some of the most advanced compute systems in the world
- Be part of a team that values innovation, autonomy, and continuous learning
- Make a measurable impact on the performance and reliability of global AI workloads
