Original job description
Job Type: Full Time | Location: Vancouver, BC | Department: Engineering | Reporting to: VP, Engineering | Work Location Type: #hybrid
IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN's platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.
Reporting to the VP, Engineering, the Document Control Manager will build and lead IREN's engineering document control function from the ground up. There is no established document control structure today. This role owns the standards, systems, and procedures that govern how engineering and construction documentation is created, reviewed, issued, revised, and archived across our data center projects, and will grow and lead the team required to run it.
This is a department head seat, not a senior controller seat. We are looking for someone who has run document control on large, documentation-heavy construction programs, knows what good looks like, and can stand it up here without a long runway.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way, responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
- Significant experience leading document control in engineering or construction environments, typically 10 to 15+ years, with a track record on large capital projects. Candidates with less tenure and an exceptional record will be considered.
- Hands-on experience managing a document control team, including hiring, training, and supervising staff.
- Deep working knowledge of construction documentation and processes: drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, transmittals, as-builts, vendor data, and close-out packages.
- Experience on large, documentation-heavy programs such as P3, design-build, hospital, institutional, or industrial projects is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with Procore and MS SharePoint; experience with other EDMS and project collaboration platforms (Newforma, Aconex, BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam) is an asset.
- Ability to design document numbering, metadata, revision control, and workflow standards from a blank page and get multidisciplinary teams to adopt them.
- Strong communication and coordination skills; comfortable working with engineers, contractors, consultants, and site teams.
- Able to operate in a fast-moving, sometimes chaotic environment and bring order to it.
- Diploma or degree in engineering, technical administration, information management, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Document control certification is an asset but not required.
- Establish IREN's engineering document control standards, procedures, and governance, and own them going forward.
- Assess current state, define the structure and headcount the function needs, and hire, train, and lead the document control team.
- Own the configuration and administration of our EDMS (currently Procore and SharePoint), including permissions, folder structures, templates, and workflows.
- Manage document workflows end to end: creation, review, approval, issuance, distribution, revision, and archiving.
- Enforce revision control so engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance teams are always working from the latest approved documents.
- Set and enforce document numbering, coding, metadata, and formatting conventions across the engineering department and external partners.
- Coordinate document flow between engineering, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance teams, consultants, and contractors.
- Oversee compilation of engineering documentation packages, including design deliverables, RFI responses, test records, vendor dossiers, and construction records.
- Lead project close-out documentation, ensuring all as-built and final documentation is collected, validated, and archived.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, quality, and internal standards (ISO, engineering codes, project requirements).
- Run regular audits of data accuracy, file storage, and adherence to standards; identify and resolve gaps.
- Provide system support and training to users across the organisation.
- Report on document status and deliverables to project teams and engineering leadership.
Compensation
- The expected base salary for this role ranges starting from $135,000.00
- Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.
- Total Compensation package may be inclusive of annual incentive bonus and equity (long-term incentive).
- Relocation assistance (as applicable and based on successful candidate circumstances).
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage, 100% company paid for employees and dependents
- Company-paid life and disability insurance
- Voluntary life and critical illness coverage available
- Employee Assistance Program and virtual health care platform
- RRSP with company match
- Voluntary TFSA
- 3 weeks annually for vacation and paid holidays
- Hybrid work arrangement
- Opportunities for advancement and internal mobility
- Training and personal development opportunities
- Company events and team-building activities
