Original job description
Are you Ready to Build the Future of AI Infrastructure?
If you’re energized by massive scale, deep technical complexity, and the opportunity to shape the next era of compute, this is your moment. Join a team where groundbreaking work meets competitive compensation, meaningful impact, and a chance to accelerate your career at the forefront of AI innovation. We want to meet you.
Why IREN?
IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way: responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
This position is based on-site in Mackenzie, BC, supporting the Mackenzie Air-Cooled Project and the upcoming Optimization Project at our operating data center site. It is a camp-based role working a 14 days on / 7 days off (14&7) rotation in support of the project's two-crew (A/B), day and night construction schedule. Camp accommodations, meals, and site transportation are provided during on-rotation periods.
The Role
The QA/QC Field Inspector is IREN's independent verification presence on the Mackenzie expansion. We are hiring inspectors in two streams, Electrical and Mechanical, across both crews and both shifts; tell us which discipline you are applying for. Reporting to the discipline Superintendent, you inspect and verify that installations match the Engineer of Record's design, the applicable codes and standards, and the IREN Quality Management System, working day to day with the contractors' QA/QC teams to confirm their quality program is being executed and that the evidence it produces is accurate and complete. You also own the quality record for your scope: inspection reports, test records, non-conformances, and turnover documentation, captured and traceable from installation through commissioning and handover. This is a live, mission-critical site: a single installation defect or a gap in the record can compromise uptime or delay energization, so you hold contractors to a zero-defect standard, refuse work or records that do not meet requirements, and escalate early. Expect to spend most of every shift in the field.
Preferred Experience
The IREN Package
At IREN, we offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package designed to support your health, well-being, and long-term success. Our Canada package for hourly paid positions includes:
Compensation
Health & Wellness
Financial Well-Being
Time Off & Flexibility

Expect to spend most of every shift in the field.
- Field Inspection & Verification: Perform in-progress and final inspections against drawings, single-lines or P&IDs, schedules, specifications, and approved submittals. Electrical stream: MV/LV distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, PDUs, busway, cable tray and conduit, terminations, grounding and bonding, controls and BMS/EPMS. Mechanical stream: piping and mechanical systems for liquid and air cooling (pumps, CDUs, heat exchangers, air handlers, fan walls), equipment setting and alignment, welding and pipe fabrication, pressure testing, flushing, insulation, and supports.
- Hold and Witness Points: Attend and sign off hold points and witness points defined in the Inspection and Test Plans; confirm no work is covered, energized, pressurized, or turned over without the required inspections complete.
- Testing: Witness contractor and third-party testing (electrical: megger, continuity, torque, hi-pot, ground resistance, relay and breaker testing, point-to-point; mechanical: hydrostatic and pneumatic tests, NDE results, flushing and cleanliness, leak and functional checks); verify equipment calibration and result acceptance.
- Contractor QA/QC Engagement: Act as IREN's day-to-day quality counterpart to the contractors' QA/QC staff; review and monitor their Quality Control Plans, ITPs, and checklists; join pre-installation meetings, first-work inspections, and mock-ups to set the standard before production work begins.
- Non-Conformance: Initiate, document, and track NCRs and deficiencies; verify root cause, corrective action, and retest before closure. Coordinate Technical Safety BC inspections and Engineer of Record field reviews for your scope.
- Documentation & Turnover: Own the quality record for your scope with Document Control: inspection logs, test reports, NCR and deficiency registers, ITP status, photo records, and turnover packages. Verify work is executed only to current controlled revisions.
- Commissioning Support: Verify construction completion and record closure before systems are released for energization, pre-functional testing, and commissioning; support Integrated Systems Testing.
- Safety: Model IREN's safety culture and WorkSafeBC OHS Regulation requirements, with particular attention to energized-work controls, arc-flash protection, pressurized systems, and live-site interfaces. Stop work where conditions present an unacceptable risk.
- Reporting: Provide daily inspection reports and weekly quality metrics (inspections completed, hold points, open NCRs, deficiency aging) to the Superintendent.
- 8+ years of hands-on industrial construction experience in your discipline (data centers, power generation, substations, oil and gas, mining, pulp and paper, or heavy industrial), including 2+ years in a QA/QC inspection role.
- Demonstrated experience inspecting against engineered designs and enforcing ITPs, hold points, and NCR processes on industrial or mission-critical projects.
- Experience working directly with contractor QA/QC departments and reviewing contractor quality records for acceptance.
- Electrical stream: working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1), CSA Z462, and applicable CSA, IEEE, and NETA standards; able to read single-lines, schematics, and cable schedules.
- Mechanical stream: working knowledge of ASME B31.1/B31.3, CSA B51, ASME Section IX, and applicable welding and pressure-piping codes; able to read P&IDs, isometrics, and equipment data sheets.
- Experience with construction document control, controlled revisions, and turnover documentation; comfortable with Procore, Aconex, or similar, Microsoft Office, and mobile inspection tools.
- Clear, defensible written reporting and the discipline to refuse work or records that do not meet the standard.
- Ability to work on-site in Mackenzie, BC on a 14&7 camp rotation, day or night shift; camp/remote-site and live-site (brownfield) experience an asset.
Preferred Experience
- Red Seal Electrician, Millwright, Pipefitter, or Welder certification, or a recognized inspection or quality certification (ASQ CQI, NETA, CWB Level 2, API 570/510, or equivalent).
- Prior experience on mission-critical or data center construction, including liquid-cooled infrastructure (CDUs, direct-to-chip, immersion) and its electrical and mechanical interfaces.
- Experience supporting energization, commissioning, and Integrated Systems Testing.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001-based quality systems and Technical Safety BC permitting and inspection.
- CSTS-2020 or BCCSA safety training and standard first aid.
- Work with state-of-the-art AI hardware and some of the most advanced compute systems in the world
- Be part of a team that values innovation, autonomy, and continuous learning
- Make a measurable impact on the performance and reliability of global AI workloads
