Original job description

Podtech Data Centers Inc., the employing entity, is a proud member of the IREN Group and we are currently looking to hire!

IREN is a leading next-generation data center business powering the future with 100% renewable energy. We build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.

We have grown substantially since 2019, from our inception in Australia to now having several facilities across North America and being listed on NASDAQ… and we are just getting started! By joining us, you will be contributing to the future of sustainable high-performance compute and the local communities we strive to have a positive impact on.

The Technical Writer designs, builds and owns IREN’s operating documentation system and authors the operating procedures (SOP/MOP/EOP), readiness and handover documentation for the data centre campuses, so that site teams work from procedures that are accurate, verified in the field and easy to find. Technical content comes from the engineers and site teams, who remain the technical authority and approve it; the writer owns how it is captured, structured, verified and maintained. The role sits in the Datacenter Operations org and is functionally lead by the Asset Management & Operational Excellence function that supports site operations teams in Canada and the US.
  • Diploma or degree in technical communication, engineering, information management or a related field
  • 5+ years of technical writing in an industrial, engineering or data center environment, including procedures verified with floor-level technicians
  • Experience building a documentation system from the ground up: templates, style guide, single-source authoring, revision scheme, searchable library
  • Proficiency with single-source, structured authoring: topic-based content, reuse through variables and snippets, a revision scheme, multi-format publishing (MadCap Flare, Paligo or similar); Microsoft Office and SharePoint; able to read engineering drawings and technical material
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization; follows through to closure and self-manages across concurrent priorities
  • Strong communication and coordination skills across engineering, operations and contractor teams
  • Willingness to travel regularly to IREN sites in Canada and the US
  • Establish, own and administer single-source authoring: templates, style guide, variables for volatile content, reuse across campuses, output to PDF, SharePoint and the site knowledge base
  • Author and maintain the global SOP/MOP/EOP suite with subject matter experts: one template, one style guide, one voice
  • Write readiness gate procedures, acceptance criteria, checklists and handover documentation for new campus stages
  • Write up the operating records generated during commissioning: test records, settings and as-operated configurations, in a form site teams can use
  • Evaluate engineering, OEM and contractor material and decide how it becomes site-usable procedures: what is included, how steps are sequenced, worded and warned, and what is verified in the field; technical content confirmed by the SMEs
  • Verify procedures with the technicians who use them, on site or through site teams; record failures, revise and re-test until the steps hold
  • Build and maintain the site-facing procedure library so a technician can reach the current procedure for the asset in front of them
  • Run the review cadence with SMEs and approvers; track open reviews to closure and hand approved documents to Document Control for issue
  • Maintain a re-verification schedule and feed lessons learned from the floor back into revisions
  • Set the content standard for commissioning and handover documentation packages, advise Engineering, Commissioning and site teams against it, and write the content

Other important requirements
  • Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
  • Must provide own steel-toed work boots; other PPE will be supplied.
  • Must be able to travel regularly to IREN sites in Canada and the US; schedule and frequency to be discussed.
The IREN Package:
  • The expected base salary for this role starts at $76-114K annually CAD.
  • Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.
  • Total Compensation package may be inclusive of annual incentive bonus, and equity (long-term incentive)
  • Extended Health and Dental Benefits
  • 3 weeks paid vacation

Other Internal Information:
  • Location: Hybrid, remote
  • Reporting Line: Director, Operations
  • Travel Requirements: Regular travel across IREN sites
  • Flexibility: IREN operates across multiple countries / time zones. Must have a flexible approach to work hours
