The role
The PLC / Robotic Programmer will be responsible for programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting automated machinery and robotic systems. The successful candidate will work closely with Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, and Project Engineering teams to deliver fully integrated automation solutions.
Primary Duties
- Program and configure PLC, HMI, and robotic control systems for custom automation equipment.
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and robotic programs.
- Complete machine commissioning, start-up, and debugging both in-house and at customer sites.
- Integrate robots, vision systems, safety systems, drives, and other automation components.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and machine specifications.
- Work closely with Electrical and Mechanical teams to ensure proper system integration.
- Diagnose and resolve controls and automation issues during commissioning and production.
- Provide technical support and training to customers as required.
- Travel throughout North America for approximately 30% of the time.
Technical Requirements
- Strong PLC programming experience within a custom machinery or industrial automation environment.
- Experience with robotic programming, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of industrial controls, HMIs, VFDs, servos, safety systems, and automation networks.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Experience with machine commissioning and on-site troubleshooting.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout North America approximately 30%.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of PLC/Robotic programming experience in an industrial automation or custom machinery environment.
- Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or comparable systems.
- Robotics experience with platforms such as FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa, or similar is an asset.
- Electrical, Controls, Automation, or related technical education is preferred.
- Valid driver's license and passport required.
- Location: Oakville, ON | Approximately 30% North American Travel
Salary Range: $40/hr - $60/hr + OT + Per Diems
