Original job description

Join our Field Service Engineering team as an Engineer, Field Service - Electrical, where you'll play a key role in supporting shipbuilding production through hands-on engineering analysis and collaboration.

In this role, you'll work closely with cross-functional teams, including Production, Planning, Supply Chain, and other Engineering groups, to ensure ship designs are accurately interpreted and executed. You’ll investigate design inquiries using 3D models, 2D drawings, and production bill of materials, and contribute to engineering change requests that improve ship construction and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Support shipbuilding production by reviewing and interpreting design information (3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs).

  • Investigate and resolve engineering defects related to ship design.

  • Develop engineering change requests, including redline drawings, sketches, and documentation.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders (Design Agent, suppliers, customer) to address design-related inquiries.

  • Originate routine or moderately complex engineering deliverables under the supervision of a licensed P.Eng.

  • Identify risks and opportunities for improvement within your scope and across the broader engineering discipline.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • 5+ years of progressive engineering experience.

  • Familiarity with shipyard disciplines such as hull structure, piping systems, propulsion, HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems.

  • Exposure to or interest in marine engineering through academic study or work experience (e.g., co-op placements).

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
