Original job description

Midland Transport is seeking a highly analytical and results-driven Transportation Network & Optimization Engineer at our Head office in Dieppe NB. This person will help shape the future of our transportation network. This role is responsible for designing and leading our capacity management strategy, ensuring the network is optimized to support operational efficiency, service excellence, resilience, and sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain capacity models across terminal, linehaul, and pickup & delivery operations.
Identify bottlenecks and optimize network performance using data-driven analysis and Theory of Constraints principles.
Monitor capacity utilization and recommend solutions to improve throughput, efficiency, and service levels.
Establish capacity protection strategies to support operational resilience and manage demand fluctuations.
Conduct forecasting, scenario modeling, work measurement, and performance analysis to support decision-making.
Recommend improvements to processes, staffing, schedules, routing, load planning, and asset utilization.
Support strategic planning by translating demand forecasts into future labour, fleet, facility, and technology requirements.
Lead cross-functional network optimization initiatives and present actionable recommendations to leadership.
Develop engineering standards, tools, and reporting to drive continuous improvement across the organization.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.
3 to 5 years of experience in industrial engineering, process engineering, transportation engineering, network design, capacity planning, operations research, or logistics optimization.
Experience developing capacity models, conducting forecasting and scenario analysis, and utilizing work measurement methodologies.
Strong project management skills with experience leading cross-functional initiatives and driving organizational change.
Working knowledge of transportation and logistics operations, including terminal, linehaul, and pickup and delivery environments.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
Strong financial acumen and the ability to evaluate operational trade-offs between service, cost, and capacity.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
