In this position, you will support the planning and environmental assessment of infrastructure projects across Canada. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects while developing your knowledge of environmental assessment, regulatory processes, socio-economic analysis, and environmental consulting.
You’ll work alongside experienced environmental professionals, technical specialists, and project managers who are committed to mentoring and supporting your professional development.
If you’re passionate about environmental planning, sustainability, and infrastructure and are eager to build your career in environmental consulting, we encourage you to apply. Previous consulting experience is not required. Bring your curiosity, collaboration skills, and enthusiasm for learning, and we’ll help you grow.
Responsibilities
- Support Environmental Assessment (EA) activities throughout various stages of project planning, assessment, regulatory review, and approval.
- Assist with the preparation of environmental impact assessments, regulatory applications, technical reports, and supporting documentation.
- Conduct research and analysis related to socio-economic conditions, including demographics, housing, employment, land use, community services, and other relevant topics.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to compile and integrate environmental, socio-economic, and community information into project assessments and reports.
- Assist with reviewing and interpreting technical information and translating findings into clear, well-organized documentation.
- Support the consideration of Indigenous knowledge, community input, and socio-economic perspectives within project documentation, as appropriate.
- Assist project teams with coordination, data collection, document preparation, and other project delivery activities.
- Develop an understanding of Canadian environmental assessment and regulatory processes through hands-on project experience and mentorship.
- Be a Safety Leader and promote Jacobs Beyond Zero and our culture of caring.
- Collaborate with internal teams to integrate biophysical components, socio-economic components and Indigenous knowledge and values into regulatory applications, assessments or reports.
- Conduct baseline socio-economic research and analysis (demographics, housing, employment, land use, services).
- Integrate Indigenous knowledge and community input into socio-economic analyses where appropriate.
- Be a Safety Leader and promote Jacobs Beyond Zero and our culture of caring.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Planning, Applied Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Geography, Sustainability, or a related field.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience, including internships, co-ops, academic projects, research, volunteer experience, or professional work.
- Interest in environmental assessment, environmental planning, infrastructure, energy, or environmental consulting.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an interest in developing technical writing capabilities.
- Ability to organize information, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with data analysis and research tools, including publicly available datasets such as Statistics Canada.
- Interest in learning about Indigenous engagement, socio-economic considerations, and environmental and regulatory processes in Canada.
- Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn from more experienced team members.
We value collaboration and believe that in-person interactions are crucial for both our culture and client delivery. We empower employees with our hybrid working policy, allowing them to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations enabling them to deliver their best work.
Your application experience is important to us, and we’re keen to adapt to make every interaction even better. If you require further support or reasonable adjustments with regards to the recruitment process (for example, you require the application form in a different format), please contact the team via Careers Support.
