By joining Jacobs, you’ll commit to supporting and engaging with these teams, as we work to build a company like no other. The Intermediate Structural Designer will be working alongside our engineers in developing designs in BIM/CAD and delivering the drawings through various stages of the project - from preliminary design through to and including the tender period with possible support into Construction. The candidate will also be involved in back-checks and quality checks for Jr. Designers. The ideal candidate should have experience in independently developing contract/construction drawings sets for structural buildings, be aware of and actively implement best practice CAD standards (in terms of organization of the drawing and annotations, and correct use of levels, parts/families, etc.). The candidate should have sufficient knowledge in structural systems and spatial concepts to generate drawings from basic sketches or markups. As an intermediate and independent designer you will be expected to check your own work for quality and completeness, and you will be required to work with other discipline teams to coordinate the drawings and BIM.
Preferred Software Experience Revit, AecoSim , Microstation (OpenBuildings), AutoCAD, Autodesk BIM 360, Navisworks Manage and Bluebeam Revu.
Here's what you'll need
- 8 years experienced in developing construction documents, including organization and annotation/drawing best-practices, creation of plans, sections, and details for structural buildings
- Experience working on water/wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, reservoirs, or other municipal water infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
- Experienced in drawing/modeling different structural systems, such as concrete or steel structures, including basic understanding of rebar detailing, steel connections
- Good spatial awareness and 3D modeling capabilities, keen ability to learn new 3D software.
- Efficient in drafting/modeling tasks
- Excellent communicator, able to use technical terms to discuss challenges and solutions
- Ability to learn through instruction and self-study towards a continuous improvement cycle
