Original job description
Jarvis Consulting has an immediate need for a Senior ML/AI Databricks Engineer.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years MLOps, data engineering, or ML platform experience, deep Databricks expertise, strong Python + SQL and experience building reusable ML components, templates, and standardized deployment patterns.
In this role you will design and implement the Databricks AI layer of our client's platform, establishing standardized project setup, CI/CD promotion gates, model registry discipline, and deployment runbooks that the entire ML org can reuse. This is platform engineering, not individual model work.
Responsibilities
- Design the Databricks AI platform layer: project templates, promotion gates, model registry patterns
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for Databricks jobs and models
- Establish governance and monitoring: who deploys what, how is model performance tracked, what are the rollback procedures
- Lead IDP (Intelligent Document Processing) delivery: use case design, Databricks implementation, and handoff to ops team
- Mentor the junior engineers on the team
- Collaborate with the Azure AI Foundry and Power Platform specialists to unify governance and deployment across all AI workloads
Required Skills
- Databricks 'expert' with expertise in MLflow, Delta Lake, model registry, job scheduling, CI/CD
- Excellent Python and SQL skills
- Experience designing reusable ML infrastructure/platforms (not building one-off models)
- Comfortable in ambiguous environments; ability to define best practices from first principles
Preference will be given to candidates with Databricks Certification (Champion preferred)
This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days/week required on site in downtown Toronto.
The initial contract term is 12 months.
