Job Summary

The Mine Geologist plays a critical operational role by tracking, mapping, and modeling the deposit to ensure the profitable extraction of ore while minimizing waste dilution. Working directly at the intersection of geoscience and mine engineering, this role is responsible for daily grade control, structural mapping, blast-hole or face sampling, and updating the active 3D geological block models to maximize mineral recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Ore Control & Grading: Conduct daily pit tours or underground face evaluations to define ore and waste boundaries; issue clear instructions to shovel operators and mining crews.
  • Geological Mapping & Logging: Map active mine faces, benches, and underground developments to track structural controls, alteration zones, and lithological variations.
  • Sampling & Assay Quality Control: Supervise production sampling programs (e.g., blast holes, sludge, or muck samples) and oversee QA/QC protocols before dispatching samples to the laboratory.
  • 3D Geological Modeling: Integrate new structural data, assay results, and core-logging data to routinely update 3D geological and grade-control models using industry software.
  • Production Reconciliation: Collaborate with the Mine Planning Engineer to cross-reference actual mined grades/tonnages against the predictive model and monthly production forecasts.
  • Drill Program Execution: Assist in designing and executing short-range delineation and infill drilling programs to de-risk upcoming mining blocks.
