We are looking for an experienced
Lead Carpenter who takes pride in their craft, leads by example, and can keep a small crew productive without needing someone looking over their shoulder every day.
This role is about more than being a skilled carpenter. We need someone who can organize daily work, solve problems in the field, maintain high standards, and help build a crew that can be trusted to get the job done right.
We are a family-owned design/build contractor serving South Glengarry, Cornwall, and the surrounding SD&G area. Our work includes custom homes, renovations, additions, and other general contracting projects.

What You'll Do
You'll lead and work alongside a small crew of approximately two to three team members, helping keep projects organized, productive, and on track.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Lead daily work activities and coordinate tasks for your crew.
- Work alongside team members while maintaining responsibility for the quality and progress of assigned work.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Perform hands-on carpentry, framing, finishing, drywall, and other construction-related tasks as project needs require.
- Identify problems on site, make sound decisions, and find practical solutions without waiting for constant direction.
- Coordinate with the Site Supervisor and other team members to keep work moving according to project priorities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site.
- Communicate expectations clearly and help less experienced team members improve through hands-on guidance.
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and follow through on commitments.
- Represent Franklin General Contracting professionally with clients, trades, suppliers, and coworkers.
What We're Looking For
- At least 5 years of experience in carpentry or residential construction.
- Previous experience leading a crew, acting as a Lead Hand, or taking responsibility for job-site execution is strongly preferred.
- The ability to work independently while keeping the broader team informed.
- Confidence reading construction drawings and translating plans into completed work.
- Strong practical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- A commitment to quality workmanship, safety, and accountability.
- Clear communication and the ability to work well with different personalities.
- A valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to travel between job sites.
- Experience with finishing carpentry and drywall is an asset.
- Experience operating a mini excavator or hauling trailers is an asset, but not required.
- A Red Seal carpentry designation is an asset.
