Original job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Development Manager (BDM) based in Canada.

As a Business Development Manager, you will lead regional sales efforts and drive revenue growth through strategic business development and distributor partnerships.

You will identify and develop new salon relationships while strengthening existing partnerships and expanding opportunities within assigned markets.

The role combines field sales, account development, relationship management, product education, and commercial strategy.

You will work closely with distributor sales teams and internal partners to deliver a strong customer experience from initial engagement through ongoing growth.

A key part of the position involves representing innovative professional beauty products, sharing product knowledge, and building credibility within the salon and stylist community.

You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, using market insights, creativity, and business acumen to achieve ambitious sales objectives.

The role is highly relationship-driven and requires frequent travel, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to identifying and converting new business opportunities.

Accountabilities

Prospect and develop relationships with new salon partners across assigned territories and target markets, identifying accounts that align with the brand and commercial strategy.
Create and execute account-specific annual business development plans using market insights, historical data, growth opportunities, and profitability considerations.
Partner with Education and Field Sales teams to onboard new accounts and provide a high-quality experience from initial contact through first purchase.
Deliver engaging presentations and product demonstrations that communicate product value, technology, brand positioning, and available support resources.
Train and support distributor partners and sales teams on product knowledge, sales approaches, and techniques that contribute to commercial success.
Build and maintain strong relationships with distributor field teams and salon partners to expand market presence and strengthen customer loyalty.
Identify new growth opportunities within existing accounts and develop initiatives that increase engagement, sales, and long-term value.
Serve as a key regional business partner by gathering customer feedback, identifying market opportunities, and developing initiatives that encourage loyalty and advocacy.
Monitor business development activity and performance metrics, adjusting strategies and priorities to support sales targets.
Maintain accurate CRM records covering sales activities, opportunities, customer interactions, and account development.
Collaborate with marketing, education, activation, and finance stakeholders to align regional strategies and maximize business impact.
Participate in industry events and trade shows to represent the business, build professional relationships, identify prospects, and uncover new opportunities.
Establish credibility within the professional beauty community by sharing relevant market insights, trends, product knowledge, and industry perspectives.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or a comparable commercial role within the beauty or consumer goods industry.
Strong understanding of the professional salon landscape and genuine interest in innovation within the beauty industry.
Proven ability to develop new business, cultivate customer relationships, and deliver measurable sales results.
Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Highly organized and self-motivated, with a strong bias toward action, ownership, accountability, and measurable impact.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, particularly when managing multiple accounts, opportunities, and priorities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software.
Comfortable traveling approximately 60% of the time to maintain close relationships with customers and partners across the assigned region.
Social media savvy and comfortable engaging with professional communities and industry audiences through digital channels.
