- Gather and analyze evidence by interviewing policyholders, third parties, witnesses, legal representatives, and other relevant parties to establish the circumstances and extent of losses.
- Interpret insurance policies, technical assessments, fire investigation reports, applicable case law, and other documentation to determine coverage, claim values, and appropriate settlement outcomes.
- Provide expert guidance on commercial property claims to customers, colleagues, brokers, and other stakeholders, explaining complex issues and recommending appropriate courses of action.
- Review lease agreements and other contractual documents to determine insured parties' obligations, financial interests, and responsibilities relating to property damage and repairs.

- Maintain clear and timely communication with policyholders, brokers, underwriting teams, legal professionals, contractors, and other parties involved in claim resolution.
- Prepare and manage claim correspondence and supporting documentation, including critical path plans, proofs of loss, reservation of rights letters, and other required communications.
- Identify questionable claims, potential fraud indicators, subrogation opportunities, and risk exposures, taking appropriate action to protect the interests of all relevant parties.
- Prioritize competing claims, maintain accurate records, and deliver responsive, professional customer service throughout the claims lifecycle.
- Provide additional support during catastrophe events and periods of elevated claim volumes, including occasional evening and weekend work.
- At least two years of experience as a field adjuster handling commercial lines claims.
- A minimum of one year of experience managing first-party commercial property claims, including building owner and tenant losses, business interruption, stock, cargo, builder's risk, crime, and equipment claims across different industries.
- Strong knowledge of commercial property insurance, policy interpretation, property damage assessment, claim investigation, and settlement procedures.
- Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate technical reports, repair estimates, contractual obligations, and complex claim documentation to make sound decisions.
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to manage complex claims and communicate effectively with commercial clients and insurance brokers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain coverage decisions, claim progress, and settlement recommendations clearly and professionally.
- A customer-focused mindset and a commitment to delivering timely, fair, accurate, and high-quality claims service.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple claims, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing workloads in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as familiarity with claims management platforms such as Guidewire.
- Adaptability when using new technologies, together with strong computer skills and attention to data accuracy.
- A Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP), or other relevant industry designation is preferred. Candidates must be willing to pursue the CIP designation to meet applicable provincial licensing requirements.
- A valid driver's licence and the ability to travel to commercial property inspection sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
