Original job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Field Service Technician - Level I based in Canada.

This is an entry-level field service opportunity focused on supporting the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of precision metrology equipment.

You will develop specialized technical expertise through structured classroom, online, and hands-on training alongside experienced technicians.

The role combines mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and computer-controlled systems in a customer-facing environment.

You will travel to customer locations across Canada, with a preference for candidates located in the Quebec City area.

Your work will directly contribute to equipment reliability, service quality, and customer satisfaction.

As your skills progress, you will take on increasingly independent service assignments and technical responsibilities.

The position is well suited to a technically curious, organized, customer-focused professional who enjoys continuous learning and hands-on problem solving.

Accountabilities

Complete required classroom, online, and on-the-job training to develop the technical competencies and certifications needed for the role.
Learn to install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and related precision metrology equipment.
Develop practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and computer-controlled systems, as well as the ability to interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, manuals, and service documentation.
Support senior technicians with installations, service calls, preventive maintenance, calibrations, troubleshooting, and repairs.
Perform assigned technical activities within the scope of training and supervision, progressing toward independently completing service assignments.
Diagnose basic mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and system-related issues, escalating complex problems to senior technicians or appropriate technical support teams.
Inspect equipment, identify service requirements, and recommend appropriate follow-up actions using approved tools, diagnostic equipment, and procedures.
Provide professional and responsive customer support, clearly communicating service findings, equipment status, completed work, and next steps.
Build positive relationships with customers and internal stakeholders while managing expectations and helping coordinate the resolution of customer concerns.
Complete service reports, work orders, calibration records, expense reports, and other documentation accurately and within established timelines.
Maintain accurate records of equipment conditions, work performed, parts used, outstanding issues, and recommended follow-up actions.
Manage assigned tools, diagnostic equipment, spare parts, and consumables, ensuring appropriate storage, security, maintenance, and inventory accuracy.
Coordinate with service, deployment, receiving, and warehouse teams to support customer and operational requirements.
Follow health and safety requirements, quality standards, security protocols, customer-site procedures, and applicable service policies.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, identify hazards, use required protective equipment, and operate company vehicles or material-handling equipment safely.

Requirements

Fluency in both English and French, written and spoken.
College diploma or university degree in electronics, electromechanical engineering technology, industrial mechanics, mechatronics, or a related technical discipline; equivalent technical training and practical experience may also be considered.
Previous experience installing, maintaining, repairing, or troubleshooting industrial electronics, mechanical equipment, machinery, or computer-controlled systems is preferred.
Experience with CMMs, precision measurement systems, or industrial metrology equipment is an asset.
Previous customer service or field service experience is beneficial.
Strong mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer aptitude, with the ability to learn new technical concepts, equipment, software, and procedures quickly.
Basic diagnostic, analytical, and troubleshooting capabilities, with the ability to identify problems and determine appropriate next steps.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, drawings, and written instructions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information clearly and professionally.
Strong customer-service and relationship-building skills with a professional, dependable, and solutions-focused approach.
Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management abilities, with the capacity to maintain accurate service and expense records.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities in a fast-paced field environment.
Ability to work independently after completing required training while collaborating effectively with senior technicians and internal teams.
Commitment to workplace safety, service quality, continuous learning, and professional development.
Willingness and ability to travel to customer locations as required, with candidates in or near the Quebec City area preferred.
