Original job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Project Manager (Engineering) based in Canada.

Are you an experienced engineering project manager ready to lead complex projects and make a tangible impact across industrial sectors? This full-time opportunity offers the chance to oversee multidisciplinary engineering projects from initiation through completion, with a focus on mining, utilities, and heavy industry. Initially remote from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, the role will transition to a hybrid arrangement as a local office is established, with travel to client sites as required. You will take ownership of project performance, balancing scope, schedules, budgets, quality, and safety while building trusted client relationships. Working within a collaborative and entrepreneurial team, you will have the autonomy to influence project delivery practices, mentor professionals, and contribute to regional business growth. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader seeking meaningful responsibility, professional development, and long-term career progression in engineering consulting.

\nAccountabilities

Project planning and delivery: Lead multidisciplinary engineering projects from initiation through close-out, ensuring deliverables meet agreed scope, schedules, budgets, quality standards, and client expectations.
Client relationship management: Build and maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle, identify and document requirements, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure clear communication regarding objectives and deliverables.
Scope and contract management: Define project scope, manage interfaces and changes, and ensure project activities comply with contractual obligations, client requirements, and applicable standards.
Schedule and budget control: Develop and maintain project schedules, monitor progress against milestones, manage financial performance, and implement corrective actions to address delays or cost overruns.
Cost management and forecasting: Collaborate with project services teams to prepare cost reports, forecasts, approvals, and trend analyses while identifying opportunities for cost optimization and improved financial performance.
Engineering coordination: Oversee engineering design activities, establish clear objectives for design teams, and ensure alignment with the client's Basis of Design, relevant regulations, and applicable engineering codes.
Procurement and construction support: Coordinate engineering deliverables with procurement and construction activities to maintain project alignment, resolve interfaces, and support efficient execution.
Risk and change management: Identify project risks and opportunities, assess potential impacts, and develop proactive mitigation strategies to address scope, cost, schedule, and performance challenges.
Quality assurance: Define project quality requirements and ensure deliverables meet established standards, technical specifications, contractual commitments, and client expectations.
Health, safety, and environmental compliance: Ensure applicable health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures are followed and that project participants understand and document compliance with relevant safety requirements.
Progress reporting and communication: Provide accurate, timely project updates to clients and internal stakeholders, monitor communication across project teams and third parties, and improve reporting processes where necessary.
Proposal development and estimating: Support the preparation of proposals, project estimates, and commercial submissions to help secure and plan future engineering work.
Team leadership and development: Provide clear direction, establish project objectives, motivate multidisciplinary teams, mentor colleagues, and foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

Professional experience: At least four years of progressively responsible experience in a multidisciplinary engineering environment, such as Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM), or Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).
Project management expertise: Demonstrated experience managing complex engineering projects with budgets typically ranging from CAD $500,000 to $10 million.
Engineering design knowledge: Strong understanding of engineering design processes, project development phases, technical deliverables, and the coordination of multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Industry experience: Familiarity with greenfield and brownfield mining, utilities, or heavy industrial projects, including the technical and operational considerations associated with these environments.
Project controls: Proven ability to manage project scope, schedules, budgets, forecasts, change requests, risks, and performance reporting.
Contract and commercial management: Understanding of contract terms, project cost management, estimating, procurement coordination, and change management processes.
Technical and regulatory knowledge: Familiarity with applicable industry standards, engineering regulations, codes of practice, quality requirements, and health and safety procedures.
Client and stakeholder management: Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and resolve project challenges effectively.
Leadership and problem-solving: Excellent organizational skills, sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to lead teams, make informed decisions, and proactively address project risks.
Professional registration: Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Applied Science Technologist in Canada, or eligibility to obtain the relevant designation, is an asset.
Project management certification: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is considered an advantage.
Contract administration certification: The MMCD Certified Contract Administrator (CCA) designation is an additional asset.
Adaptability and collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a growing, entrepreneurial environment, manage multiple stakeholders, and contribute to evolving project delivery practices.
Location and travel: Ability to work remotely from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, transition to a hybrid arrangement as required, and travel to client sites throughout the region.

Benefits

Competitive annual salary: CAD $100,000–$140,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and relevant expertise.
Retirement savings: Employer RRSP matching program to support long-term financial planning.
Health and wellness: Employee Health Spending Account to help cover eligible health-related expenses.
Performance-based incentives: Short-term and long-term incentive programs offering additional earning potential.
Flexible work arrangements: Work-from-home flexibility, with an initial remote arrangement and an anticipated transition to hybrid work in St. John's.
Professional development: Opportunities to attend courses, conferences, and other learning activities to expand technical and leadership capabilities.
Professional designation support: Assistance with obtaining and maintaining relevant professional certifications and designations.
Ongoing performance development: Regular performance management meetings to support feedback, goal setting, career development, and continuous improvement.
Corporate development programs: Access to initiatives designed to invest in employee growth, engagement, and professional success.
Collaborative team environment: Join a small, growing team where individual contributions are valued and employees have opportunities to influence project delivery and business development.
Company-wide social events: Opportunities to connect with colleagues and build relationships across the organization.
Meaningful project exposure: Work on multidisciplinary projects across mining, utilities, and heavy industry, with opportunities to strengthen client relationships and take ownership of significant project outcomes.
