Original job description
The Senior Engagement Manager will lead the development and optimization of sophisticated fraud prevention and detection strategies across the customer lifecycle, from application and account onboarding to transaction monitoring. Combining strategic consulting, advanced analytics, and hands-on fraud strategy expertise, you will help financial institutions reduce fraud losses while maintaining seamless customer experiences. You will serve as a trusted advisor to executive stakeholders, translating complex data and risk insights into actionable business strategies. Working across analytics, technology, operations, and client teams, you will oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of fraud rules, models, and decisioning solutions. You will also lead experimentation initiatives, monitor emerging fraud threats, and ensure robust controls, governance, and performance measurement. This is an opportunity to influence high-impact risk management programs while leading multidisciplinary teams in a client-focused, data-driven environment.
Accountabilities
- Serve as the primary client contact, building trusted relationships with C-level executives and senior stakeholders while providing strategic guidance on fraud prevention and risk management initiatives.
- Design, implement, and continuously optimize fraud detection and prevention strategies across application fraud, account-level fraud, and transaction monitoring.
- Analyze fraud trends, customer journeys, and conversion funnels to refine rules and models that balance fraud losses, approval rates, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
- Monitor key performance indicators, including fraud detection rates, false-positive rates, manual review volumes, and referral rates, identifying opportunities to improve strategy effectiveness.
- Track emerging fraud patterns, including account takeover (ATO), first-party fraud, synthetic identity fraud, and mule or merchant-related fraud, and proactively adapt controls to address evolving threats.
- Lead test-and-learn initiatives by designing champion-challenger experiments, measuring performance improvements, and scaling successful strategies across relevant business areas.
- Oversee the implementation of fraud decisioning strategies on relevant platforms, ensuring solutions are appropriately configured, documented, auditable, and aligned with governance requirements.
- Collaborate with Operations teams to optimize fraud investigation workflows, dispute and chargeback processes, case management procedures, and agent playbooks.
- Lead analytical projects from planning through execution, coordinating with offshore teams to ensure effective delivery, clear communication, and alignment with client objectives.
- Translate analytical findings into compelling recommendations and presentations that communicate business impact, risk exposure, and strategic opportunities to senior stakeholders.
- Guide cross-functional teams in the application of data science, statistical analysis, segmentation, and model-driven decisioning to strengthen fraud controls.
- Establish effective performance monitoring and reporting practices to support continuous improvement, operational consistency, and informed decision-making.
- At least 12 years of professional experience in marketing data science or a closely related analytical discipline, with substantial experience in consulting, solution design, and client management.
- Experience working with banks or fintech companies in the unsecured lending sector.
- Strong knowledge of fraud prevention and detection strategies across application, account, and transaction lifecycles.
- Experience with fraud detection and decisioning platforms, such as Actimize, FICO, or SAS.
- Practical expertise in feature engineering using digital, device, behavioral, and other relevant data sources.
- Hands-on experience designing fraud rules, applying predictive models, developing customer or transaction segments, and conducting A/B or champion-challenger testing.
- Understanding of Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, identity verification (IDV), dispute and chargeback processes, and fraud control and audit requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex datasets, assess strategy performance, and translate findings into measurable business improvements.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, including the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams and coordinate delivery across distributed or offshore environments.
- Excellent client-facing communication, presentation, and storytelling skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and strategic recommendations to both technical and executive audiences.
- Strong stakeholder management, relationship-building, and collaborative leadership skills, including the ability to influence decisions and build alignment across teams.
- Strategic thinking and planning capabilities, with the ability to identify emerging risks, establish priorities, and connect analytical initiatives to broader business objectives.
- Familiarity with cloud database solutions, data modeling, data warehouse design, machine learning libraries, and statistical software development.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, lead complex engagements, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a dynamic consulting environment.
- Strategic leadership opportunity: Lead high-impact fraud prevention initiatives for financial services clients.
- Executive stakeholder exposure: Build relationships with senior decision-makers and contribute to strategic risk management discussions.
- Complex analytical challenges: Apply data science, fraud analytics, experimentation, and decisioning technologies to evolving business problems.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work with client stakeholders, analytics specialists, technology teams, and operations professionals.
- Leadership and team development: Guide analytical delivery teams and collaborate with distributed and offshore colleagues.
- Professional growth: Strengthen expertise in fraud strategy, financial services, consulting, and advanced analytical solutions.
