Build the Automation Behind Modern Manufacturing

Johnson Electric is looking for an experienced Automated Machine Designer (Mechanical) to develop custom automation and manufacturing equipment for our Ancaster operation.

This is a hands-on mechanical design role for someone who enjoys turning concepts into working equipment. Projects may include robotic cells, automated assembly equipment, material-handling systems, inspection stations, tooling and complete production systems.

This is not an entry-level position. Candidates should bring 3+ years of direct automation or automated equipment design experience along with strong SolidWorks capabilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Design mechanical systems for automation, robotic cells, assembly equipment, fixtures, gauges and error-proofing applications.
  • Develop concepts, detailed drawings and bills of materials using SolidWorks.
  • Perform mechanical calculations and select components for automated equipment.
  • Apply knowledge of pneumatic systems, electrical devices and machine motion to equipment designs.
  • Collaborate with electrical designers, manufacturing, project teams, customers and suppliers.
  • Support equipment through build, debug, integration and implementation.
  • Review designs for manufacturability, safety, materials and machining requirements.
  • Contribute to design standards, continuous improvement and project estimating.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior designers or co-op students when required.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of hands-on automation or automated equipment design experience.
  • Strong SolidWorks skills.
  • Experience designing machinery, assembly systems, robotic cells or similar manufacturing automation.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, mechanical motion systems and electrical devices used in industrial equipment.
  • Understanding of machine design, manufacturing methods and machine safety.
  • Ability to take a project from concept through detailed mechanical design and support it through build/debug.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.

Why Work At Johnson Electric?

You’ll work on a variety of automation projects where your designs move beyond the computer screen and become working manufacturing solutions. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with experienced technical teams, solve real production challenges and continue developing your automation design expertise within a global organization.

Compensation: $70,000–$120,000 annually. Placement within the range will be based on experience, skills, qualifications and the overall assessment during the hiring process.
