About the Opportunity

JORI Logistics is seeking a hands-on, technology-forward Controller to lead our accounting function and ensure the integrity of our financial information. The Controller will help prepare JORI's financial statements, accounting controls, cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and job-level profitability across our Canadian operations and our entities or operations in the United States, the Philippines, and Kazakhstan.

We are open to candidates who have not previously held the title of Controller. The successful candidate may be an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Senior Accountant, or similarly capable professional who is ready to take ownership of a broader accounting function. We value capability, judgment, curiosity, learning speed, and personal ownership more than years of experience or previous job titles.

JORI has internal AI, IT, and business-intelligence capabilities. The Controller will work closely with these teams to define accounting requirements, validate data, identify anomalies, and ensure that management reporting is built on accurate financial information. This is not a traditional CFO or corporate-strategy position: the Controller will be expected to understand the details, investigate inconsistencies, improve processes, and stand behind the numbers.

Financial Reporting and Close

Help prepare JORI's monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements accurately.
Ensure the P&L, balance sheet, and cash-flow statement are complete, timely, properly classified, and supported.
Establish and manage a disciplined monthly close, including complete reconciliation and review of every material balance-sheet account.
Review journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, intercompany accounts, foreign exchange, and other material estimates.
Identify and resolve stale, duplicated, unsupported, incorrectly classified, or unexplained balances.
Maintain accounting policies, close checklists, supporting schedules, and clear documentation.
Coordinate year-end reporting, tax preparation, reviews, audits, and external accounting requirements.

Job Profitability and Operational Accounting

Help prepare accurate job-level revenue, cost, and gross-profit reporting.
Reconcile operational and job-management systems to the general ledger.
Identify completed or active jobs that have not been invoiced appropriately.
Identify missing vendor costs and ensure necessary costs are accrued against the correct jobs.
Review estimated costs and determine when accruals should be adjusted or reversed.
Investigate jobs with unusual negative or positive margins and resolve the underlying accounting or process issues.
Ensure revenue and expenses are recognized in the correct period and establish clear rules for job creation, invoicing, accruals, financial completion, and closure.
Improve the accuracy of profitability reporting by customer, job, service, branch, and legal entity.

Accounts Receivable and Collections

Ensure customer invoices are accurate and issued promptly.
Oversee A/R reconciliations, aging reports, collections, cash application, and customer account maintenance.
Establish a consistent collections and escalation process with documented owners, actions, and follow-up dates.
Investigate invoice disputes and address their underlying operational or accounting causes.
Recommend and enforce appropriate credit limits, payment terms, and account holds in coordination with company leadership.

Accounts Payable and Cash Controls

Ensure vendor invoices are accurate, properly approved, and assigned to the correct jobs, departments, and entities.
Oversee A/P reconciliations, payment scheduling, vendor account maintenance, and short-term cash requirements.
Ensure obligations are paid according to approved terms while maintaining appropriate segregation of duties, payment approvals, and banking controls.
Prevent duplicate payments, avoidable late fees, and unsupported disbursements.

International and Multi-Entity Accounting

Oversee entity-level and consolidated accounting for JORI's international operations.
Ensure consistent accounting policies and chart-of-account structures across entities.
Manage intercompany invoicing, reconciliations, settlements, allocations, and eliminations.
Oversee foreign-currency accounting and translation.
Maintain support for management fees, shared-service charges, and other intercompany arrangements.
Coordinate with local accountants, payroll providers, tax advisors, and auditors in each jurisdiction.
Maintain a calendar of entity-level reporting, tax, payroll, statutory, and compliance obligations.
Support transfer-pricing documentation and international tax compliance with qualified external advisors.

Data, Spreadsheets, Systems and AI

Work confidently with large, detailed, and imperfect financial and operational datasets.
Use advanced spreadsheet techniques to reconcile accounts, analyze transactions, investigate exceptions, and validate financial results.
Combine and reconcile data from accounting, banking, payroll, job-management, and other operational systems.
Understand how financial data originates, moves between systems, and enters the general ledger.
Design effective reconciliations, exception reports, and financial-control models.
Use AI tools regularly to accelerate research, data analysis, reconciliation, documentation, and problem-solving.
Use AI-assisted analysis to identify unusual transactions, margin anomalies, missing costs, uninvoiced work, and other exceptions.
Translate accounting requirements into clear rules that JORI's AI and IT teams can implement.
Critically review and validate AI-generated work rather than assuming that automated output is correct.
Protect confidential financial, employee, customer, and vendor information and maintain appropriate human review for all accounting conclusions.

About You

Required Capabilities

Strong knowledge of financial accounting, including the P&L, balance sheet, cash-flow statement, accruals, cut-off, and account reconciliations.
Ability to understand transactions from their operational origin through to the general ledger and financial statements.
Demonstrated ability to investigate discrepancies and reach well-supported accounting conclusions.
Strong spreadsheet and financial-data analysis skills.
High comfort learning and working across multiple software systems.
Practical experience using AI tools, or a demonstrated ability and commitment to incorporate AI into daily work.
Judgment to review AI-generated analysis critically and verify its accuracy.
Ability to organize work, meet closing deadlines, lead others, and create accountability.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain accounting matters to non-accountants.
High personal ownership, curiosity, integrity, resourcefulness, and attention to detail.
CPA, CA, or equivalent professional accounting designation, or meaningful progress toward one.

Helpful, but not Required

Experience with job costing, project accounting, or another environment where revenue and expenses must be matched to individual jobs.
Experience with multiple entities, currencies, or international operations.
Experience reconciling operational systems to a general ledger.
Experience improving or automating accounting processes.
Experience working with data, IT, automation, or business-intelligence teams.
