Original job description

JRS Engineering (JRS) is an industry-leading engineering firm providing professional consulting services throughout Western Canada. Since 1997, we have remained committed to delivering best-in-class building science solutions that prioritize value, quality, and performance. We work with our clients – developers, architects, building owners, property managers, legal and insurance professionals, industry consultants, manufacturers, and contractors – to deliver technically sound, cost-effective solutions for projects of any size and complexity.

We’re problem-solvers with high standards. We seek to hire those who thrive on collaboration, love a technical challenge, and can apply their knowledge to come up with practical solutions that work for our clients.

Our Mission

To lead our profession by consistently delivering high-quality services, maintaining and cultivating our technical knowledge, and valuing our clients’ goals.

Our Corporate Culture

The JRS corporate culture is built on collaboration. Guided by our core values, we are committed to fostering an environment that promotes growth through professional development, teamwork, and mentorship. We take pride in celebrating our people, their diversity, and their professional and personal achievements.

Your Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer with a minimum of 6 years of experience to join our team of technical professionals. In this role, you will manage Existing Buildings projects and address building envelope engineering challenges, requiring the application of technical building science knowledge, building envelope design, and building enclosure principles and standards. Day-to-day duties involve communicating with clients and project stakeholders, reviewing design documents, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, performing field reviews, and site testing. Buildings range from small to large, wood frame to concrete.

Here’s what you’ll be doing at JRS

Technical Responsibilities

Oversee and deliver field and office work including:
- Conduct assessments and investigations; produce comprehensive technical reports highlighting findings and recommendations
- Design and develop construction documents for building envelope repair, renewal and rehabilitation projects (tender documents, scope of work, specifications, details and drawings)
- Evaluate building envelope work to ensure quality standards are met
- Work alongside and direct team undertaking field reviews throughout construction
- Oversee and perform window tests, air leakage tests, and other field testing
Communicate effectively with junior and senior staff, clients, and stakeholders to convey professional opinions and risks and limitations associated with decisions
Take professional responsibility for estimates, specifications, reports, documents, plans, letters of assurance, or other documents prepared and delivered in a professional capacity or that have been prepared and delivered by others under your direct supervision
Conduct project post-mortems and share learnings with wider team

Project Management

Lead and manage building science projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to budgets, and exceeding client expectations
Maintain full knowledge of the scope of work and scope of services for each project, including any changes which may occur throughout the course of the project; ensure services are compliant with scope and JRS company standards and procedures
Prepare and review monthly project billing to analyze billed services and ensure accounts are up to date
Proactively manage all staff working on your projects to ensure profitability and quality consistent with company expectations

Business Development

Build positive relationships with clients and stakeholders (such as contractors, developers, and property managers) to achieve repeat business
Proactively seek opportunities to establish relationships with new clients and maintain/improve relationships with existing clients
Build on working relationships with other professional service firms

Here’s what you bring to JRS

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Applied Science/ Engineering and P.Eng. designation with EGBC
A minimum of 6 years of work experience in building science and building envelope consulting

Knowledge, Competencies, and Capabilities

A commitment to being at the forefront of the industry evidenced by speaking at conferences, attending seminars, contributing to publications, and giving presentations
A track record of effectively leading projects
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Superb organizational and time management skills including the abilities to multitask, prioritize, and manage resources effectively
Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
Self-starter with the flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and varied workloads

Other Requirements

Must hold a valid British Columbia Driver’s Licence

Annual salary range: $100,000 to $125,000
