Junior Fire & Life Safety Specialist

JWX Fire Consulting Ltd. - Winnipeg, Manitoba

JWX Fire Consulting Ltd. is seeking a motivated early-career professional to join our growing Manitoba practice. We provide fire and life-safety engineering, building-code consulting, CAN/ULC-S1001 Integrated Systems Testing (IST), existing-building assessments, and code-compliance services for institutional, commercial, industrial, and residential projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical expertise while working directly with a Professional Engineer specializing in fire protection on meaningful projects, including hospitals, personal care homes, high-rise buildings, schools, commercial facilities, and complex renovations.

Responsibilities

Support building-code and fire/life-safety reviews for a variety of building projects.
Review architectural, mechanical, electrical, and fire-protection drawings for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
Assist with technical analysis, code-compliance strategies, reports, IST plans, deficiency reports, and other project deliverables.
Participate in site visits, field reviews, and CAN/ULC-S1001 integrated systems testing.
Assist in reviewing the operation and integration of fire alarm, sprinkler, HVAC, fire/smoke dampers, emergency power, elevators, access control, magnetic locking, and other life-safety systems.
Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, technicians, facility staff, and authorities having jurisdiction.
Contribute to projects through planning, design, permitting, construction, testing, and occupancy.
Participate in technical training, mentoring, and professional development.

Education, Skills & Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, or a related discipline; or
Diploma in Applied Science Technology, with eligibility for C.E.T. or AScT designation.

Experience

Zero to three years of relevant experience in consulting, engineering, building design, construction, commissioning, or facilities work.
Co-op, internship, trade, or related project experience is an asset.

Qualifications

Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Strong written English and ability to prepare clear technical documentation.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
Valid driver’s licence and ability to attend project sites in Winnipeg and, occasionally, elsewhere in Manitoba.
Progress toward EIT, P.Eng., C.E.T., or AScT designation is an asset.
Familiarity with the National Building Code of Canada, Manitoba Building Code, Manitoba Fire Code, or related standards is an asset.
Exposure to fire protection, life safety, architecture, engineering, construction, or facility operations is an asset.
