Location: Hybrid- Toronto, ON
Job type: Full-Time/Permanent hiring
We are seeking a senior Java Backend & Integration Engineer with 7 to 13 years of enterprise development experience. This role focuses heavily on data transformation pipelines, message-queue middleware, and microservices architecture. You will be responsible for designing and optimizing high-performance backend systems using Java and Quarkus, with a specialized emphasis on complex XML/XSLT parsing via Saxon libraries, rule-based processing, and translation into YAML configurations.

Must-Have Technical Skills
- Core Backend: Strong hands-on experience in Java backend development and cloud-native microservices using Quarkus.
- Data Transformation: Specialized expertise in XML, XSLT, and XSLT parser implementations utilizing Saxon libraries, alongside experience translating structured data into YAML.
- Integration & Middleware: Deep knowledge of policy/rule-based processing and hands-on experience with Message Queues (MQs).
- Security & Network Protocols: Strong understanding of secure transport protocols, specifically TLS and MQ security standards.
- Performance: Advanced capabilities in backend application debugging, profiling, performance tuning, and low-level support.
- AI Productivity: Practical experience leveraging GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, or similar AI-assisted development tools within your daily coding workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Service Architecture: Design, build, and support scalable Quarkus-based microservices optimized for massive enterprise data volumes.
- Parser Engineering: Build and maintain custom parser components, managing data formatting pipelines from legacy structured inputs to modernized outputs.
- Secure Messaging: Implement secure, reliable messaging fabrics utilizing MQs while ensuring rigorous encryption and protocol compliance (TLS).
- Optimization: Troubleshoot bottlenecks, refine transformation speeds within the Saxon ecosystem, and conduct detailed code reviews.
