Original job description

About Kalamoir: A Calgary-based General Contractor & Developer that specializes in a variety of different development projects including residential infill and greenfield developments, low-to-midrise multi-family buildings, commercial and civil/infrastructure projects. Many of our projects are based in Calgary and the surrounding municipalities, but we are continuing to grow our presence in Interior AB & BC.

A strong focus of Kalamoir is our preconstruction services where we are engaged early in the design development of projects so we can optimize value for clients through early budget and schedule preparation that are continually refined and updated leading up to formal tender and construction commencement.

Role Overview: The Foreman helps coordinate subtrades and site resources to ensure work aligns with the project schedule and contract documents. This role leads daily site activities, runs the site safety program, verifies quality and provides hands off support as needed. The Foreman reports to the Site Superintendent or Construction Manager.

Key Accountabilities

  • Enforce and model all safety standards, maintaining a safe and compliant work environment for all staff and subcontractors.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping, and that tools and equipment are maintained, stored, and secured daily; open and close the site as assigned.
  • Coordinate subcontractors to align with the schedule, contract documents, and quality objectives, escalating underperformance immediately.
  • Labour support as needed for self-performed duties or coordinate third party contracts.
  • Support survey, testing, inspections, and subcontract handovers, and manage on-site coordination.
  • Attend and document weekly subcontractor meetings covering safety, schedule, quality, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Complete QC checklists at planned milestones and verify work complies with drawings, specifications, and contract documents, preventing out-of-scope work without management approval.
  • Maintain site documentation, including photos, Procore journal entries, deficiency tracking, and as-built drawings for turnover.
  • Support reporting on schedule, quality, safety, and budget, highlighting risks and corrective actions.

Competencies and Skills

  • Strong understanding of site safety, with proactive hazard awareness and safety management.
  • Ability to read drawings and specifications and understand trade scopes.
  • Good communication and delegation skills, with the ability to provide clear direction to crews and subtrades.
  • Technically and technologically competent, including comfort with digital site documentation tools such as Procore.
  • Reliable, hardworking, and proactive, with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Working Conditions

  • Travel to job sites within Alberta - either day travel or prolonged projects out of town.
  • Physically demanding work in various weather conditions and varying environments.
  • Requires standing for long periods and the ability to lift up to 45 lbs.

Kalamoir Core Values

  • Accountability: Take responsibility for actions and outcomes, ensuring integrity and consistency.
  • Greatness: Strive for excellence, improvement, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Healthy Relationships: Promote trust, collaboration, and open, respectful communication.
