An organization in the natural resources and investment sector is looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant or Accounting Consultant to support its lean finance team. This part-time opportunity is well suited to an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working independently, taking ownership, and helping build stronger financial processes.
The initial commitment is approximately 20 hours per week, with the potential for the workload to fluctuate based on business needs. The role offers significant flexibility and can be structured around a consulting or contract arrangement.
About the Role
Working closely with senior finance leadership, you will play an important role in maintaining accounting accuracy, supporting financial reporting, and strengthening processes and controls.
This is a hands-on position rather than a purely transactional role. You'll review work prepared by external providers, investigate issues, support reporting requirements, and work directly with external auditors. The environment is lean, so the ability to operate with limited direction and respond quickly when priorities shift is important.
What You'll Do
Review accounting work completed by external service providers and ensure transactions are accurate and properly supported
Review accounts payable, general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations
Support month-end close activities and preparation of financial statements
Assist with periodic financial reporting and related schedules
Work directly with external auditors by coordinating requests, preparing supporting documentation, and addressing follow-up questions
Support cash management, payment requirements, and other time-sensitive finance matters
Review purchasing and invoice processes to ensure appropriate controls are followed
Support accounting requirements across multiple entities
Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, documentation, and internal controls
Assist with financial analysis and planning activities as the role develops
What You Bring
Approximately 6+ years of progressive accounting experience
Strong full-cycle accounting experience with the ability to work independently
Experience reviewing accounting work and identifying discrepancies or control issues
Strong understanding of month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements
Experience working with external auditors and supporting audit processes
Excellent attention to detail and a highly organized, process-oriented approach
Ability to take ownership of priorities and respond effectively to urgent requests
Comfortable working in a lean environment where responsibilities can span multiple areas
Experience with accounting or ERP systems; familiarity with cloud-based accounting platforms is an asset
Public-company, multi-entity, capital markets, or regulated reporting experience is considered an asset
Why Join
This is an opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility within a lean and entrepreneurial finance environment. You'll work directly with senior leadership, gain exposure to complex reporting and audit activities, and have the opportunity to improve processes rather than simply maintain them.
The flexible part-time structure makes this particularly well suited to an experienced accounting professional seeking consulting, fractional, or contract work. As the organization evolves, there may also be opportunities for the scope and level of responsibility to expand.
