Original job description

Mandate and Accountability

Support long-range strategic planning as a genuine thought partner to the leadership team.

Develop and lead corporate development initiatives (M&A, partnerships, etc).

Deep involvement in capital raising, including investor targeting, materials build, investor meetings, diligence management, and close.

Own corporate and commercial modelling in support of corporate planning, fundraising and strategic partnership or deal execution.

Support other corporate aspects of the business including finance, marcomms, legal and external affairs.

Lead non-dilutive capital access.

Candidate Profile

5 to 10 years in corporate development / strategy at a startup or scale-up, VC, PE or IB.

Time spent inside a startup or fund is meaningful; IB experience with a focus on early-stage or energy companies is a strong alternative.

Comfort operating across capital, commercial, and broader corporate functions in the same week. This is a Swiss-army-knife seat, not a specialist one.

• Second-order thinker. Moves naturally from “what the math says” to “what it actually means” and can articulate the implication clearly to the team and externals.

Strong written and verbal communicator; particularly someone whose clarity and composure hold up in external and/or high-pressure situations.

Entrepreneurial temperament: hungry, adaptable, humble about what they don't yet know, and quick to close the gap.

Why This Seat

• Cross-vertical role with real ownership. Real exposure and responsibility across multiple corporate functions, in a company with genuine traction and a defined next chapter.

• A clear runway to lead key functions. The capital/commercial/financial side of this business is a team of two today: this hire and the Co-Founder. The explicit intent is that this role matures to lead key corporate function(s).

• Well-funded work that matters. The company pays market compensation and provides significant personal/professional growth opportunities without expecting IB analyst-style hours.

Why Kavenex

• Best positioned company in the industry. Kavenex combines an experienced team, with the unique headstart of a partnership with Koloma, and the backing of patient and aligned investors. We firmly believe that we are the best positioned company in the world to solve this problem.

• Build Canada’s next energy industry. Natural hydrogen today is comparable to what the oil and gas industry was in the early 1900s in Canada. If successful, this work will create an entire industry, with the jobs, economic benefits, and lower energy costs it brings, while producing zero carbon emissions. You will be writing the playbook.
