Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Intermediate Building Commissioning Specialist to join our growing commissioning team. In this role, you will lead and support commissioning activities for new construction, retrofits, and existing building optimization projects. You will work closely with owners, design teams, contractors, and facility operators to ensure building systems perform in accordance with design intent, operational needs, and industry best practices.

This position is ideal for a professional with hands-on field experience who is ready to take on greater technical responsibility and partial project leadership.

Responsibilities:

Lead and execute commissioning activities for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and building automation systems (BAS).
Review design documents, specifications, and submittals to verify alignment with the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) and Basis of Design (BOD).
Develop commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance test (FPT) procedures in accordance with industry standards such as ASHRAE guidelines.
Perform on-site functional testing of HVAC systems, central plants, air handling units, hydronic systems, heat pumps, chillers, boilers, and integrated control sequences.
Identify system deficiencies, document issues, and coordinate resolution with contractors and design consultants.
Analyze trend data and system performance metrics to verify energy efficiency, proper sequencing, and optimization opportunities.
Support or lead commissioning meetings, site visits, and coordination sessions.
Prepare detailed commissioning reports, including deficiency logs, test results, and final commissioning documentation.
Assist in training facility staff on system operation and reviewing O&M documentation.
Support retro-commissioning and re-commissioning projects aimed at improving building performance and reducing energy consumption.
Mentor junior commissioning staff and provide technical guidance in the field.
Stay updated on industry standards, codes, regulations, and emerging technologies related to building commissioning practices.
Supporting procurement of new projects and clients.

Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, hydronic systems, central energy plants, building automation systems, and control sequences.
Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Systems Engineering, or related field.
3–7 years of experience in building commissioning, TAB, controls, mechanical contracting, or building systems operations.
Familiarity with commissioning standards, guidelines and best practices.
Experience reviewing construction drawings, control schematics, and sequences of operation.
Proficiency in reading and analyzing BAS trend logs and using data analysis tools.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex system performance issues.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a dynamic construction environment.
Professional certifications such as Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) or Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) are considered assets.
