Service Manager – Power Generation & Field Service
Greater Vancouver / Lower Mainland, British Columbia
$100,000–$130,000 per year, based on experience
Full-Time | Primarily Office-Based | Field Travel as Required
Why Consider This Opportunity?
Join a growing Canadian power-systems company at an important stage of its expansion.
This is an opportunity to shape and strengthen a developing service operation rather than inherit a rigid corporate structure. The company is small enough for the Service Manager to influence decisions and see the direct impact of their work, while being supported by a larger industrial organization with ambitious growth plans.
You will lead technicians, improve the customer experience and establish the systems required to support continued growth across British Columbia and other markets.
The Opportunity
The Service Manager will lead the day-to-day operation of the company’s technical field-service function.
This position combines technician leadership, workload planning, customer communication, warranty and repair coordination, technical guidance, documentation, safety and service performance.
The successful candidate must possess enough mechanical and electrical knowledge to support technicians, assess service issues and coordinate the appropriate response. They do not necessarily need to be the organization’s most advanced generator technician.
What Will You Be Responsible For?
Lead the Service Team
- Provide day-to-day leadership and support to field-service technicians.
- Assign work based on customer priorities, technician availability and technical requirements.
- Coach technicians, address performance concerns and support ongoing development.
- Assist with recruiting, onboarding and retaining qualified technical employees.
- Ensure technicians have the tools, parts, information and support required to work safely and effectively.
Plan and Coordinate Field Service
- Schedule preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, commissioning, warranty work and emergency service.
- Balance planned assignments with urgent customer requirements and changing field conditions.
- Coordinate technician travel, site access, equipment, parts and other job requirements.
- Monitor assignments from the initial service request through completion and customer follow-up.
- Work with engineering, production, projects and sales to coordinate service requirements.
Support Technicians and Customers
- Help technicians assess generator, engine, electrical, controls and ATS-related issues.
- Guide troubleshooting and determine when additional support is required from engineering, an OEM or another specialist.
- Manage customer concerns, technical escalations and changing service expectations.
- Coordinate warranty inspections, claims, repairs and replacement parts.
- Identify recurring equipment problems and recommend improvements to training, procedures or documentation.
Improve Service Performance
- Review service reports, timesheets, expenses, warranty records and job documentation.
- Monitor response times, job progress, service quality, cost and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and improve preventive-maintenance programs, service procedures and checklists.
- Reduce callbacks, recurring failures and avoidable service delays.
- Establish the processes and performance measures required to scale the service department.
What Experience Is Most Important?
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- Leadership experience within a technical field-service, maintenance or equipment-support environment.
- Experience supervising, scheduling or coordinating mobile technicians.
- Strong mechanical and electrical understanding of industrial or commercial equipment.
- Sound technical judgment and the ability to coordinate effective troubleshooting.
- Experience managing customer concerns, urgent service requirements and technical escalations.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance, commissioning, warranty administration and equipment repair.
- Strong planning, documentation and professional communication skills.
- A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel as required.
Relevant Backgrounds
Direct generator or power-generation experience would be highly valuable. We may also consider strong technical-service leaders from areas such as:
- Commercial or industrial HVAC and mechanical service.
- Boilers, combustion or industrial burner systems.
- Heavy equipment or diesel-engine service.
- Industrial electrical or controls service.
- Compressors, pumps or rotating equipment.
- Other complex field-service operations involving mobile technicians, preventive maintenance and emergency response.
Experience with diesel or natural-gas generators, ATS and switchgear, generator commissioning, data-centre power, service contracts, warranty administration or departmental budgeting would be beneficial but is not mandatory for every qualified candidate.
Travel and Working Conditions
The position will be based primarily from the company’s Greater Vancouver operation, with travel to customer locations as required.
Some assignments may involve travel elsewhere in British Columbia, Canada or the United States. Occasional work outside regular business hours may be required to support urgent customer or equipment-service needs.
The Right Person
The strongest candidate will combine practical technical judgment with calm, organized service leadership.
You should be comfortable supporting experienced technicians, communicating difficult information to customers, making sound decisions as priorities change and building the structure required for a growing service operation.
