AML Business Analyst III

Location: Toronto, Ontario - Hybrid, 3 days onsite

Employment Type: Contract

Pay Rate Range: $50-$57/hr + 4 % vacation pay

Contract Duration: October 19, 2026 to March 19, 2027

Schedule: Monday to Friday, core business hours

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced AML Business Analyst III to support transaction monitoring and broader Financial Crime Risk Management (FCRM) initiatives within a leading financial institution.

The successful candidate will act as a critical bridge between FCRM business users and Technology delivery teams. You will translate complex regulatory, risk, data, and detection requirements into well-designed technology solutions that are testable, operationally ready, and sustainable in business-as-usual environments.

This is an excellent opportunity for a business-focused analyst with strong data and testing capabilities who can work effectively across Business, Technology, Data, Data Governance, and Quality Assurance teams.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze and document business requirements for AML transaction monitoring and FCRM platforms.
Support the identification and transition of AML-related requirements from business stakeholders into technology solutions.
Translate complex technical concepts into clear business terms for stakeholders and delivery teams.
Work closely with Technology, Data, Data Governance, QA, and business teams to ensure requirements are accurately understood and implemented.
Develop and execute Business Acceptance Testing (BAT) plans based on business use cases.
Collaborate with BAT test leads to define test scenarios, expected outcomes, data requirements, and acceptance criteria.
Investigate and interpret large datasets using SQL to identify trends, issues, anomalies, and business conclusions.
Review and document ETL processes, data mappings, data lineage, and data quality considerations.
Support data enablement activities required for testing, implementation, and ongoing platform operations.
Help ensure FCRM changes are appropriately designed, tested, operationally prepared, and sustainable in BAU.
Act as a single point of contact across multiple teams for assigned initiatives.
Manage and coordinate small initiatives from requirements through testing and implementation.
Track requirements, defects, decisions, and deliverables using tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
Participate in stakeholder meetings, working sessions, and project discussions with internal and external partners as required.
Handle confidential customer and financial crime-related information in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Undergraduate degree or equivalent practical experience.
Approximately 5–7 years of business analysis experience; exceptional candidates with relevant experience may also be considered.
Strong Business Analysis experience, including Business Acceptance Testing.
Experience working with Data, Technology, Data Governance, and QA teams.
Strong SQL skills, including the ability to query large datasets, interpret results, and derive meaningful business conclusions.
Understanding of ETL processes, data mapping, data lineage, and data quality concepts.
Experience creating and executing business-focused testing plans.
Ability to translate business requirements into clear, actionable technology requirements.
Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, and other business analysis and delivery tools.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to take ownership, coordinate across multiple teams, and manage small initiatives independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in AML, transaction monitoring, or Financial Crime Risk Management.
Experience with Oracle ECM or similar transaction monitoring platforms.
Experience working in a financial institution or other highly regulated environment.
Knowledge of financial crime controls, detection scenarios, regulatory requirements, or risk management processes.
