Senior Credit Risk Analyst (Energy Industry)

⏰ Schedule: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
💰 Compensation: $75–$80/hour + 4% vacation pay (T4)
About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Credit Analyst for a long-term contract opportunity in Calgary, Alberta. This position plays a critical role in managing counterparty credit risk, monitoring exposures, conducting in-depth credit reviews, and supporting business operations within a dynamic energy trading environment.
The successful candidate will possess strong financial analysis skills, excellent business judgment, and extensive experience assessing credit risk within the energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor daily counterparty credit exposures and ensure compliance with approved credit limits, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct ongoing credit analysis using financial statements, market intelligence, and industry research.
- Evaluate creditworthiness across a diverse portfolio of counterparties and provide recommendations on credit limits, ratings, and terms.
- Identify and recommend risk mitigation strategies to manage portfolio exposure.
- Support daily, monthly, and quarterly credit reporting and portfolio monitoring activities.
- Maintain and enhance quantitative credit scoring and benchmarking models.
- Participate in contract reviews, collateral negotiations, and credit-related discussions.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support new counterparty onboarding and transaction structuring.
- Utilize ETRM systems and tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, and Databricks to support reporting, analytics, and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of credit risk experience within the energy industry.
- Strong understanding of physical and financial commodity markets.
- Experience conducting complex credit reviews and counterparty risk assessments.
- Excellent financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
Preferred
- CFA designation or progress toward CFA certification.
- Experience with commodity trading and risk management environments.
- Familiarity with ETRM platforms, Power BI, Power Automate, and Databricks.
