Website Transformation Digital Communications Specialist
Location: Calgary, AB - hybrid
Assignment: 16–18 months
Pay rate: $72 per hour
We’re seeking a senior digital communications professional to help guide the business and content transformation of a large organization’s corporate website. The current website is nearing end of life and will be modernized on a headless, AI-enabled Sitecore platform.
This is a business-side digital leadership role - not a project manager or developer position. You’ll work alongside established project managers, developers, IT teams, an external agency, and content owners to shape the website’s direction and ensure the new platform meets business and audience needs. You’ll help leaders make informed decisions about what content and functionality to retain, improve, or retire - and translate those decisions into clear direction developers can act on.
What you’ll do
- Guide the business and content direction of the website transformation from discovery through launch and adoption.
- Translate corporate communications, campaign, and public-relations needs into clear requirements, user stories, and feedback on designs and wireframes.
- Advise leaders and stakeholders on website decisions, trade-offs, priorities, and opportunities.
- Work with project managers to keep business objectives and communications needs aligned throughout delivery.
- Serve as the primary business contact for the external agency, helping ensure it delivers flexible, reusable website components.
- Champion a straightforward, intuitive content-authoring experience for internal teams using Sitecore.
- Assess and rationalize existing content, and guide its migration into the new platform.
- Shape content structures, taxonomies, metadata, governance standards, and publishing workflows.
- Coordinate business testing and validate requirements, migrated content, usability, accessibility, and stakeholder expectations.
- Partner with IT on security and compliance while advocating for strong user experience and effective storytelling.
- Support training and change management for content owners adopting new tools and workflows.
- Incorporate SEO, site search, analytics, content discoverability, and emerging AI-search considerations into the digital experience.
What you bring
- Significant experience - ideally 10–15 years - in digital communications, website strategy, content strategy, or a related field.
- Experience working in a large, complex organization, navigating organizational structures and aligning stakeholders with competing priorities.
- Experience with an enterprise CMS such as Sitecore, Adobe Experience Manager, or a comparable platform, from a business-user or product-owner perspective.
- Experience contributing to a website migration, modernization, or digital transformation.
- The ability to turn complex business needs into practical website recommendations and clear requirements for developers and agencies.
- Familiarity with agile delivery, including sprint planning, backlog management, user stories, and user acceptance testing.
- Strong understanding of content architecture, taxonomies, metadata, content governance, and user journeys.
- Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards and inclusive digital design.
- Understanding of SEO, site search, digital analytics, and AI-search readiness.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
This position does not involve hands-on website development or project management. We’re looking for someone who can provide sound business and digital guidance, make informed recommendations, and help technical teams deliver the right solution.
