We currently have an opening in Mississauga, ON for a:

Junior Accountant – 18-Month Maternity Leave Contract

As a member of the Finance & Administration team, the Junior Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting functions of the organization, with a focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and general accounting activities. This role provides an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional looking to develop their experience within the construction industry.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Assist with the day-to-day accounting operations of the company
Process and review accounts payable invoices, ensuring proper coding and approvals
Assist with accounts receivable, including invoicing, receipts, and account reconciliations
Prepare and post standard journal entries
Perform monthly bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations
Assist with intercompany transactions and reconciliations between related entities
Assist with project-related accounting and charge-out activities
Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures
Assist in preparing working papers and supporting documentation for year-end audits
Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies in a timely manner
Maintain accurate and organized accounting records
Assist with financial reporting and account analysis as required
Support the Accounting Manager and Finance team with various accounting and administrative tasks
Assist with maintaining internal controls and accounting procedures
Collaborate with project managers, operations, and other departments to obtain and verify financial information
Provide backup support to other members of the Finance & Administration team as required
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Education and Experience:

University or College degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
1–3 years of accounting experience; experience in the construction industry is considered an asset
Working toward a CPA designation is considered an asset
Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and journal entries
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word
Experience with Viewpoint or another construction ERP/accounting software is considered an asset
Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player

Working Conditions:

Normal office conditions with extended periods of concentration on figures and computer screens
Some overtime may be required during month-end and year-end periods
This is an 18-month maternity leave contract position
