Original job description

We are looking for an innovative and accountable Intermediate Water Resources Engineer based in the Okanagan, with a passion for delivering practical solutions that meet each client’s unique needs. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation that you will work from our Vernon office at times to collaborate with colleagues and support project delivery. You take pride in producing high-quality work and build trust by following through on your commitments to clients, partners, and colleagues. You enjoy working in a team environment, contributing ideas, and learning from others, and want to be part of a company culture that supports your personal and professional growth.

The Company

We are a 100% employee-owned consulting engineering firm, but we are also more than that. Our diverse crew includes engineers, technologists, biologists, agrologists, planners, scientists, and more. We began in 1975 and work together in an environment that empowers us to think differently about real-world problems. We want to work with those who, like us, take pride in creating innovative solutions that push the boundaries of conventional practices.

In addition, we seek opportunities for continuous improvement in our work and support those who have a passion for excellence. At KWL, we care about each other and strive to create a fun, open and engaging environment that leverages our individual strengths and encourages vibrant discussion.

What You’ll Do

Work with senior staff and multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities, prepare competitive proposals, and deliver water resources engineering projects.
Manage projects from proposal to completion, including work plans, budgets, schedules, invoicing, change orders, regulatory submissions, professional practice documentation and client communications.
Complete hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for rivers, channels, bridges, culverts, and other conveyance structures, including flood, scour and erosion assessments and fish habitat enhancement projects.
Design flood and erosion mitigation works using traditional and nature-based approaches.
Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and tender packages from feasibility through detailed design, potentially serving as Engineer of Record.
Conduct field assessments and construction field reviews, resolve field issues, and support flood and erosion emergency response, recovery, and reconstruction.
Coordinate with clients, contractors, regulators, Indigenous communities, and the public throughout project delivery.

What You’ll Bring

A positive and motivated personality!
Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering (with experience in water resources)
Registered or eligible for registration with EGBC as a Professional Engineer.
Minimum 8-10 years of experience with a background in water resources and related fields
Experience with hydraulic modelling software, familiarity with hydrologic analysis, knowledge of flood inundation and flood hazard mapping
Demonstrated experience in the design, construction, and inspection of water resource projects
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and be able to work with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment, as well as an ability to communicate effectively with the public on technical concepts.
A desire to learn new skills and an eagerness to grow within your role
A valid driver’s license (in good standing) is mandatory
A willingness to work in a range of environments on a frequent basis including home office, company office, client office and on remote sites (i.e. - from your vehicle and/or hotel room).
Must be physically able to conduct field visits commensurate with project work. This may include handling and operation of equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven/varying ground terrain.

What We Offer

A hybrid work environment
Remote work options available
Competitive salary and a generous performance-based bonus
An opportunity for share ownership upon meeting the eligibility criteria
