Original job description

Who We Are

KEV builds mission-critical financial software for K12 schools across North America. Our platform provides real-time visibility and control over how funds are collected and managed, replacing fragmented workflows with secure, modern systems that schools rely on every day.

Trusted by more than 27,000 K12 schools managing over $8B annually, KEV delivers mission-critical software for payments, accounting, and reporting, where reliability and security matter. Headquartered in Toronto with teams across North America, we are scaling quickly and investing deeply in cloud-native, data-driven technology.

KEV is a place for people who care about building durable software at scale and doing work that has real impact in public education. We focus on solving hard problems, raising the bar on engineering craft, and building products that earn long-term trust from the communities we serve.

This role is for an active vacancy.

About the Role

You will join a small product engineering team building and maintaining the InTouch Pay web application. As a junior developer you will ship code to production early and often. You will work across the stack, though we will start you where your strengths are.

Expect to spend your first several months on well-scoped features and bug fixes: a new filter on a report, a permission toggle for a user role, a fix for a receipt total that does not match. Over time you will take on larger features.

What you will do

Build React and TypeScript features in a large single-page application using GraphQL and Apollo Client.
Write ASP.NET Core resolvers, services, and Entity Framework queries in C#.
Add and update GraphQL types and mutations, then regenerate frontend types from the schema.
Write unit tests with Vitest and xUnit, and end-to-end tests with Playwright.
Investigate production issues using Application Insights logs and reproduce them locally.
Participate in code review, both giving and receiving feedback.
Work with product owners and support staff to understand how school office staff use the software.

What we are looking for

Required

A degree in computer science or a related field.
Working knowledge of at least one of: TypeScript or JavaScript with React, or C# with .NET. You will eventually need to know both.
Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL.
Familiarity with Git and pull-request-based workflows.
Clear written communication as we try to be thorough in pull requests and tickets as well as daily conversation.
Curiosity about how things work and the patience to read existing code before changing it.

Nice to have

Exposure to GraphQL, either as a consumer or a schema author.
Experience with Docker for local development.
Any exposure to Azure or another cloud platform.
An internship, co-op, or open source contribution where someone else reviewed your code.
Interest in payments, fintech, or education technology.
Motivated by learning fast and taking ownership of what you ship.

What you will learn here

How a multi-tenant SaaS product isolates customer data and routes requests to the right database.
How payment processing works end to end, including authorization, settlement, disputes, and reconciliation.
How to integrate with third-party systems that do not always behave the way their documentation says.
How to ship safely to a system that schools depend on every day.

What We Offer

Competitive compensation – We believe in rewarding great work with fair, competitive pay.

Meaningful benefits– Because your well-being matters; both at work and at home.

Retirement Savings Support – We help you plan for your future with company-matched programs, including RRSP matching in Canada and 401(k) contributions in the U.S.

Professional development – We invest in your growth with ongoing learning, stretch opportunities, and continuing education, including KEV Academy for onboarding and skill-building, plus KEV University, our online platform offering a wide range of courses.

Hybrid model – 3 days in the office to collaborate and connect, with flexibility the rest of the week.

Flexible PTO – Take the time you need to recharge with close to 4 weeks of vacation and a company-wide holiday closure

Office perks – Enjoy a fully stocked snack bar and occasional catered lunches - because we know that great conversations (and ideas) often start around good food.

Salary Range - $80,000-90,000

Note: We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function, level, and country location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including skills, depth of work experience and relevant licenses/credentials, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
