Role Overview
This position is a hybrid role that combines classroom teaching with an operations/coordination component. As an English Instructor, you will lead courses and tutoring sessions, while also dedicating time to curriculum design to ensure our educational materials remain high-quality.
This role has a secondary component that requires a high level of organization and technical proficiency. For the operations/coordination component, you ensure our students are well-supported by coordinating tutor schedules and overseeing tracking systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Advanced Subject Instruction
- Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction across a diverse range of grade thresholds, specializing in secondary school levels (Grades 11–12), AP English, and IB English.
- Conduct core weekend and evening literacy blocks, including foundational courses, advanced reading, advanced writing, vocabulary enrichment, and entrance exam preparation.
- Maintain a highly structured, reliable learning environment that supports advanced students through rigorous curriculum milestones and exam preparation timelines.
2. Academic Operations & Tutor Coordination (Ongoing)
- Manage internal student tracking sheets, proactively flag academic drop-offs via "At-Risk Student Notes," and oversee the initial setup of Google Classrooms to ensure seamless workflow ownership.
- Assist with the logistical coordination of the pre-approved tutor catalog, cross-referencing availability blocks, and managing scheduling allocations within Teachworks.
- Facilitate rapid tutor placement by cross-referencing parent availability blocks against the pre-approved tutor catalog to secure and finalize a student-tutor match within a strict 48-hour operational window.
3. Curriculum Development
- Transition toward curriculum design during winter operational lulls.
- Author, refine, and optimize structured lesson plans, student study guides, and instructional resources to foster long-term student retention.
Position Mechanics & Schedule
- Status: Permanent Part-Time Staff
- Weekly Hours: 22.5 hours per week (Instructional delivery + designated administrative buffer; private tutoring allocations may expand these baseline hours).
- Work hours will be evenings and weekends.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required Credentials
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a matching humanities subject area.
- Instructional Experience: Proven track record of teaching multiple secondary grade levels, with explicit experience preparing students for AP and IB English examinations.
- Administrative Competency: Demonstrated excellence in workflow ownership and strong organizational skills, with a proven track record of multitasking, meeting administrative deadlines, and managing student files independently. Highly adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, seamlessly pivoting between instructional priorities and administrative duties while independently navigating tracking platforms (e.g., Teachworks, Google Workspace).
Preferred Assets (Bonus Points)
- Mathematical Versatility: Ability and willingness to instruct middle-school-level mathematics (up to Grade 7 Math Concepts) to maximize scheduling versatility.
