Introduction

TCU is an established real estate development and asset management firm with a diverse portfolio of projects and investments. Known for its entrepreneurial approach, the organization has built its business around identifying promising development opportunities and creating long-term value. Its work brings together thoughtful investment decisions, strong partnerships and a commitment to projects that contribute to the communities in which it operates.

As TCU continues to expand its portfolio and develop relationships with institutional partners, the organization is focused on strengthening the financial systems and processes that support its growth. They are looking for a Controller who can bring both technical expertise and a practical, hands-on approach to the role. This is an opportunity to help build the financial infrastructure of a growing business, ensuring the accounting function can meet increasingly complex requirements while continuing to operate efficiently.

Summary of the Role

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller will oversee TCU's accounting operations across its corporate entities, holding companies and project limited partnerships (LPs). You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and consistency of financial reporting while managing the day-to-day activities of the accounting function. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on improving processes, developing the team and ensuring financial information is reliable and available to support business decisions.

An important part of your role will be refining existing accounting workflows while working with the leadership team to develop systems that support new business requirements. You will identify opportunities to improve efficiency, introduce greater consistency across the department and ensure processes can accommodate increasingly complex financial structures. Your work will provide leadership with the information and analysis needed to make informed decisions as TCU continues to grow.

Beyond your technical responsibilities, you will oversee the ongoing development of the accounting team and explore how technology, including AI and automation, can improve the department's operations. By introducing practical tools and more effective ways of working, you will help create an accounting function that operates efficiently, maintains high standards of accuracy and is prepared for future growth.

Is This For You?

You are a CPA-designated accounting professional who enjoys solving complex financial problems and finding practical ways to improve how a business operates. Your background combines experience in sophisticated corporate environments with an understanding of the demands of smaller, growing organizations where responsibilities are often broad. You bring strong analytical skills and an interest in improving business processes, particularly when it comes to creating greater consistency in financial information and reporting.

With at least five years of progressive experience and a background in supervising teams, you have the leadership skills needed to guide and develop accounting professionals. You understand how financial operations connect to broader business priorities and are comfortable exploring new technologies that can improve efficiency. Whether your experience comes from public accounting and audit or private equity finance, you can navigate varied corporate structures and manage financial reporting across multiple entities with accuracy and attention to detail.

You enjoy remaining involved in the technical aspects of accounting while providing direction and support to your team. Proactive in your approach, you are comfortable taking ownership of initiatives, identifying opportunities for improvement and seeing changes through to implementation. You are looking for a role where your experience and ideas can make a lasting difference to the organization.
