Litigation Legal Assistant
Kidston Helm Ross Lawyers LLP | Vernon, BC
Full-Time | $55,000–$70,000 annually | Flexible Start Date
Great people. Interesting work. A career worth building.
Are you an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant who enjoys being the person who keeps everything moving? Someone who takes pride in the details, anticipates what needs to happen next, and genuinely enjoys working alongside a great team?
We'd love to meet you.
At Kidston Helm Ross Lawyers, we believe great legal work starts with great people. We're an established, full-service law firm in the heart of Vernon's North Okanagan, with a reputation for delivering exceptional legal services while keeping our workplace collaborative, approachable, and refreshingly down-to-earth.
We're looking for an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to join our growing team. You'll work closely with lawyers, paralegals, and fellow legal assistants who value initiative, shared responsibility, and supporting one another.
This is an opportunity to do meaningful work, contribute your experience, and be part of a firm where your role truly matters.
What You'll Be Doing
No two days in litigation are quite the same, and that's part of what makes it interesting.
You'll play an important role in keeping files organized, deadlines on track, and our litigation team running
smoothly.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Managing litigation files from opening through to resolution, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
- Preparing and drafting pleadings, correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Coordinating court dates, trials, examinations for discovery, independent medical examinations, and appointments.
- Monitoring deadlines, maintaining bring-forward systems, and managing court diaries.
- Reviewing incoming correspondence, preparing responses, and proactively managing workflow.
- Working closely with lawyers and paralegals to anticipate needs, solve problems, and keep matters moving forward.
- Maintaining organized, accurate, and confidential client files.
- Contributing to a team that values collaboration, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
What Makes You a Great Fit
We're looking for someone who brings more than technical skills. You take ownership of your work, communicate openly, and understand that being a great teammate is just as important as getting the details right.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Previous experience working as a Litigation Legal Assistant.
- Education from a recognized Legal Assistant or Paralegal program.
- A strong understanding of court rules, procedures, and litigation processes.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to balance competing priorities.
- Confidence working independently, with the judgment to know when to collaborate or ask questions.
- Strong communication skills and a professional, client-focused approach.
- Exceptional attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.
- A proactive mindset and a willingness to embrace new ideas and better ways of doing things.
Experience with motor vehicle accident claims is an asset.
Most importantly, you're someone who brings a positive attitude, takes responsibility, and enjoys being part of a team that works hard and has fun along the way.
Why You'll Love Working at KHR
We know that a great career is about more than the work on your desk.
At KHR, you'll find experienced professionals who care about the work they do and the people they do it with. We value good judgment, open communication, a sense of humour, and the ability to support each other when things get busy.
We're proud to offer:
- Time to recharge: Three weeks of paid vacation, paid sick days, and additional paid flex time throughout the year.
- Benefits that support you: Extended health and dental coverage, plus a health spending account that includes mental health support.
- Room to grow: Continuing education and professional development opportunities.
- Flexibility: A hybrid work environment.
- A connected workplace: Firm-sponsored social events and opportunities to build relationships beyond your immediate team.
- A lifestyle worth enjoying: Work in the beautiful North Okanagan, where lakes, trails, mountains, and outdoor adventures are right outside your door.
We're a firm that takes its work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. We celebrate accomplishments, appreciate different perspectives, and believe that a supportive workplace makes everyone better.
