Original job description

The Kindred team is at the heart of our cooperative, bringing our values to life every day. More than financial professionals, we care deeply about our members and our communities. With integrity, stewardship and compassion, we work to connect values and faith with finances, inspiring peaceful, just and prosperous communities.

We are currently recruiting a full-time Manager, Accounting for a 12-month contract, to join our Finance Department at Head Office (Kitchener, Ontario)

Reporting to the Director, Finance, you will lead general accounting operations and support accurate, timely financial reporting. You will coach the Accounting team, apply your CPA expertise to financial controls and accounting questions, and collaborate across Kindred to support effective decisions. This contract provides coverage while the current incumbent is seconded to a transformation project, with access to their knowledge and support during the assignment.

Key responsibilities

Lead accounting operations. Coordinate daily, monthly and quarterly processes; review reconciliations and adjusting entries; investigate unusual balances; and support timely, accurate financial reporting.
Build team capability. Set priorities, coordinate workloads and respond to escalated concerns. Provide coaching and feedback that help Accounting Representatives build skills, deliver reliable service and meet expectations.
Apply technical expertise and strengthen controls. Research accounting questions, recommend appropriate treatment and advise the Director on significant judgments and reporting issues. Help maintain and improve financial controls and processes.
Support audit and reporting. Coordinate supporting schedules and responses to external audit requests, and contribute to regulatory and Board reporting in line with applicable requirements and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

What to Bring

You bring sound judgment, curiosity and a careful eye for detail. You build solutions by investigating issues and translating technical requirements into practical actions. You build relationships through clear communication and dependable service, and develop others through supportive coaching and constructive feedback. You organize competing priorities and deliver accurate work within reporting deadlines. You also bring an active commitment to Kindred’s shared values and purpose.

Plus you bring your qualifications and experience

CPA designation and a degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related field.
Three or more years of relevant experience in public accounting, audit or financial accounting.
Experience reviewing financial statements, assessing controls and resolving accounting issues.
Experience supporting less experienced colleagues, reviewing work or coordinating assignments. Formal supervisory experience is an asset.
Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills, proficiency in Excel and the ability to learn accounting systems.
Experience with IFRS, financial services or credit unions is an asset.
